Although there have been various earlier entertainment buildings on the site the reconstructed Adelphi Theatre, with its art deco interiors, opened to the public in December 1930 with Jessie Matthews starring in Ever Green. The front-of-house areas of the Adelphi Theatre were restored to their original lustre and extravagance in 1993 when Andrew Lloyd Webber became co-owner and opened his musical production of Sunset Boulevard. Other famous productions at the Adelphi Theatre include Gertrude Lawrence in Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Bless The Bride, Beatrice Lillie as Auntie Mame, Van Johnson in The Music Man, Lionel Bart’s Blitz! and Maggie May, Charlie Girl with Anna Neagle, a revival of Me and My Girl originally starring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson and in the Adelphi Theatre’s longest run (over nine years), the new Broadway production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago. Revivals of Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat have proved enormously popular. More recently, the theatre played host to the worldwide premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies.

Kinky boots was an absolutely wonderful experience. The production is just amazing. The show is about how a son sets to revive his father's shoe business, by venturing into unknown territory! This is a complete emotional roller coaster ride, and makes you clap and cheer as the musical progresses!

This is an amazing show, the cast terrific, Billy Porter as Lola is something else, I am a 73 years old man, yet Lola made me laugh, even at times brought a tear to my eye, when singing/talking about his life growing up, amazing someone on a stage could portray such feelings. Wonderful show, do yourself a favour, go see... More

This is only my third musical, I chose it as I'd loved the film and it didn't disappoint. Great costumes and great fun throughout, I'd definitely recommend it. My seat in the upper circle second row said it was restricted view but I could see everything very clearly. £19.50 very well spent indeed! The seats weren't amazingly comfortable but there... More

An absolutely brilliant show. We went to the ticket office the day before and booked our seats. Arrived 30min before the show started, and really enjoyed. A must see.

I've seen a lot of musical theatre in London, but this was unexpectedly the best! Les Miserables, Wicked, Oliver, Lion King, We Will Rock You, Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys...move over, there's a new sheriff in town! Fabulous and loved every minute of it! Didn't want it to end....

Even if you haven't seen the film this is a fantastic show... Based on a true story this show is full of emotion, fun and has a great ending... We had seen the film 5 - 6 times so knew the storyline inside out and this theatre adaptation held true to 'real' story.. Combined with a pre-theatre dinner at 'Browns'... More
