Crossbones is somewhere that has been on my list of places to visit for a while now. Unfortunately it was closed due to staff shortages the Friday we visited. The gates are a fascinating insight into the history of the site and those remembered there....More

A truly beautiful place to visit owned by the Transport for London. It contains the bodies of over 15000 people over half being children. This was unhallowed ground where paupers, prostitutes, and like minded. The gated are covered with ribbons in sympathy with the dead....More

For all its gruesome history this is truly one of the most peaceful and calming places I've ever been. Make sure you get someone who can give you a bit of a tour. It's history is amazing. We can't let places like this be built...More

Fascinating memorial, a testament to both social values and morality at the time and to how humanity has and is changing. Just a small piece of land which may be in the shadow of the railway but sheds much light on the past in this...More

Former graveyard for London prostitutes laid to rest in unconsecrated ground after being taxed by the church for their Labours Off the beaten track in Southwark but worth a visit to see how the locals are fighting to preserve this neglected area.

Wow!! My daughter and I took the opportunity to visit the Crossbones Graveyard, and I'm so glad we did. Luckily when we arrived, the gardens were open, so we could walk around and sit quietly, there were shrines and altars all around the gardens. The...More

I quite liked this place, although there isn't a whole lot to see. Check ahead for when it is open so that you can walk inside, as the hours are limited. They are currently doing some landscape work and trying to keep the developers away....More

Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard,
the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond

Don't know. Maybe because it is now designated a memorial garden. Maybe there are historical reasons involving the church. Good question though.
