Stunning Views!!

Typically not open to the public, but if you get the opportunity to attend an event at the level 40 bar - take it. Stunning 360 degree views await.

If you want to book a memorable evening for a group of 15 or so folks then dinner in the Chivas dining room at the top of the Gherkin is highly recommended. A panoramic viewing platform and the a private dining room made this a really standout way to see London. The shard will get plenty more traffic because of... More

This is an interesting example of contemporary architecture and it is impressive if you like modern buildings and is in stark contrast to many others around. It was close by where we were staying and the opportunity to get up close and it is interesting.

This is a lovely building and makes a nice photo especially in the night sky. We did not up this time due to time constraints.

I love this building, than it was so nice to see it on my own eyes. It is nice during day and night - also. Better to make some photos. You have a possibility to go to the top of the building to the restaurant, than try it. We, rather, went to the Shard, to the top, because it is... More

Spectacular from the outside and from the inside as well. Unfortunately it is not open to the public. I work for one of the offices inside and so have the pleasure of being able to enjoy the architecture and the view.

I was lucky enough to attend a corporate birthday party here. Everything about the evening was pretty amazing. There was a drinks reception on the mezzanine level before going to the top of the Gherkin for dinner. London at night really is quite beautiful. The food, especially given there were 130ish at service, was excellent and the staff incredibly attentive... More

This is now such an iconic building that one can see across London and looks so great up close that it just gleams in the sunlight So many people thought that this was an eyesore when it was first built but it is an exceptional piece of architecture without a doubt Go up close and take as many photos as... Had a breakfast meeting here. In the business lounge just beneath the top floor restaurant. Excellent coffee and bacon roll. Freshly squeezed orange juice. Very tasty. The view is magnificent. Have also had lunch in the main restaurant with its 360 degrees view. Menu very well priced.

If one wants to see the building from outside, then do so; however, the best views of the building are from a distance and normally from a height such as from the Shard and Sky Garden (20 Fenchurch Street) observation decks or at the top of the Great Fire of London monument.

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
