The Embankment runs between the Palace of Westminster and Blackfriars Bridge along the River Thames. It is a very nice area for a stroll with lovely views. It's especially lovely at night when the attractions are all lighted up.

...although there is also Albert Embankment and Chelsea Embankment on other stretches of the River Thames in London. I have reviewed it before, and would like to reiterate that it runs between Westminster Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge. Unfortunately some reviewers believe it is any or all riverside areas of the city. I was at the Westminster end the day after... More

I would recommend this as a great walk just breathing in London itself - and I mean the atmosphere and the sights and sounds This area appeared to be really clean and well kept in addition to seeing the great architecture all around you - definitely give this a try if you are in the area

The Embankment at night all lite up is lovely . The southbank is probably the same. Not as crowded at night.

You can walk along the embankment almost from London Bridge right up to Westminster. Enjoy the views onto and across the River Thames. Take in the monuments along the way e.g. Cleopatra's Needle. Walk under the bridges. All very nice and equally attractive at night.

Thank LeeStJohn

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
