My husband and I visited on Saturday 14th Jan for my 40th birthday. I am a fan of the show first dates so couldn't wait to visit the restaurant. Although none of the staff from the show were there as they are all actors or work at a different restaurant, the staff that were there were so friendly and welcoming.... More

Went with a friend as I'm a fan of the First Dates show, although I was aware Fred and the waiters and waitresses wouldn't be there I still got a little buzz walking in and recognising it all. Everyone from the maitre de at reception to the bar staff and waiters were the friendliest I've ever seen. So keen to... More

Nice tidy square with plenty of bars and good places. There is a Pret, Starbucks, wasabi, burrito place to name but a few food outlets. Corney and Barrow, the Saint , Paternoster Chop house and the Paternoster pub are the main drinking places. Deck chairs in the summer and usually some events on or table tennis, crazy golf etc

Nice clean and tidy area near St. Paul's. Unfortunately, it was raining so much we had to run through it

I have been here a few ties before and it is quite boring as all the people in offices nearby tend to come here in their suits and so the place is very black / grey / pinstripes When I came on a Tuesday however, there was a food market (which is apparently every Tuesday) and there was foods from... Although the square has a bit sterile look, it is a pleasant place with some nice bars and restaurants around. The central monument is a 23-meters tall Corinthian column with a golden leaf covering the flaming urn at its top. The sculpture Paternoster (or Shepherd and Sheep) is the work of Elizabeth Fink from 1975. This whole area was devastated... More

I remember walking through this area in the mid 80's and again in the mid 90's. It was an embarrassment - sketchy, dirty blight, and yet tourists poured through there on a daily basis. This trip - what a wonderful improvement over the past. A large bright square with nice shops. Kudos to the developers, they did a superb job.... More

In the evening I walked by and were surprised people just sitting there. First I thought it is a performance or there will be some kind of show. But as I walked by again in the morning I noticed the chairs and pingpong tables. It is really a kively olace just to relax and enjoy the evening. Also there are... More

Full of offices, retail outlets and eating places - restaurants and cafes, this place has lot of space to relax, play and enjoy large screen television. Most of the travelers visiting St. Paul's Cathedral come and relax here over a cup of coffee or a glass of drinks. You can also admire the beauty of The Paternoster Column and view... More

Used to work alongside square for 30 years until 1995. What a change mostly for better smart offices but the old feel of a square retained with pubs and restaurants.

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
