A fun visit to see the Queens Horseguards and to watch the changing of the Guards. The changing is a tradition rich event and is beautiful to watch. The event does take some time.

Would absolutely love to come back one day to see trooping of the colour. The English are marvelously traditional. Stunning building.

We were strolling along from Westminster to Downing street and walked into two beautiful horses. I immediately realized we stumbled onto something when I saw the guards. While I was busy getting the trusty camera ready I looked past the horses and saw even more. Apparently, I wasn't the only one that didn't realize what was happening so I grabbed... More

I was lucky enough to be able to experience an uninterrupeted view of Trooping The Colour from this building. Internally, you get a feel of how important these buildings have been.

Well worth visiting. We were fortunate to witness the changing of the guard at noon. Located just down Whitehall from Downing Street.

This building is beautiful and the parade ground so big you can't imagine until you see it for yourself. We walked through and watch the changing of the Royal Horse Guards which happens each day and we then walked back through the arch and visited the museum which is to the left of the archway. A beautiful small museum but... More

If you walk up from Westminster you will come to the Horse Guards Building which is special because of the guards outside. Out the back you have the mounting and ceremonial yards which is more interesting.

I am sure a lot of people pass by this place and take a few pictures and keep on walking. Please don't as that would be a mistake. This large parade ground is where they troop the color on the Queen's birthday march. Look it up on You Tube. Try to get there a few minutes before 4 PM to... More

Nice way to spend some of your afternoon, although not a whole lot to see, I must say that I'm glad I did.

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
