Tower Lift - £6 adult; £3 concession; £14 family ticket (2 adult and 2 children)

If you enter the Cathedral at a quiet moment in the day, don’t imagine that it is always like this. Westminster Cathedral must be one of the busiest churches in the United Kingdom. Located in the heart of London, it is the mother-church of England & Wales. People are drawn to this great edifice from all over London, all over the country and the world. If you are trying to imagine ‘what goes on’ here, consider that there are seven masses each day, many great services of worship on special occasions and unique gatherings of every description which fill the Cathedral to the doors.

Westminster Cathedral Choir, justly renowned for consistent excellence, sings at the Solemn Mass each evening - with few exceptions. Even when no public ceremony is taking place, the private prayer of individual believers is a work of faith, continuously in progress. The Cathedral is a sacred space at the heart of a great city, dedicated to the worship of God.

We went to Sunday mass at Westminster cathedral and it was lovely! There's something so comforting about finding a Catholic Church thousands of miles from home and feeling like you're part of the community! The Cathedral is not done and I was fascinated by the exposed brick and construction techniques. The chapels along the sides of the cathedral are each... More

The outside of the building is impressive and no less so inside. It is beautifully decorated with lots of small chapels for private prayer (should you so wish). Conveniently located near Victoria tube and rail stations and nestled between modern offices and shops. If the weather is good it's well worth a trip up the tower (via a lift -... More

This is a beautiful place, so peaceful & serene, the mosaic work is beautiful. We were fortunate enough to hear the choir practising. Will visit again.

It`s a fantastic church that invites to meditate and also it`s a masterpiece of the XIX century. It`s open to everybody and if you are a catholic , the experience of attending mass there is really touching.

This is a beautiful building both inside and out. Stunning Byzantine style with immense marble pillars and beautiful mosaics. This is a huge space and very welcoming- no charge and visitors are welcome throughout, even when services are in progress. Services are well attended and give this a real feel of being at the heart of this city centre community.... More

For £6 this is one of cheapest ways to get a brilliant way to see the London skyline from 64m up. There is a small lift that takes you up to the top and you can spend as much time as you like there. Back in the main cathedral there are some spectacular mosaics that sit against dark backgrounds. Other... More

This is a huge church! At first it might seem rather black because there's still a long way to go before all the mosaics are finished (200 years maybe) but if you take the time to look and learn, it is a fascinating place. Such a glorious history! Well worth a detour to see this less spectacular but interesting place.

Visited early in the morning on a Saturday and it was entirely quiet. The inside of the cathedral are outstanding, the mosaics and architecture is marvelous. Of particular interest are a number of more contemporary mosaics that one wouldn't expect in a cathedral of this age. It was free to enter the main cathedral, but cost 6 pounds to go... More

Visited on 25th February and was amazed at the beauty of the cathedral. There is a deep feeling of peace and calm. A true religious experience. The mosaics in the chapels are stunning and each chapel has a clear message of the Saint that is represented. A peaceful quiet place to pray or just to think. I would certainly visit... More

This Cathedral is a great place to visit, and doesn't charge (unlike Westminster Abbey). It is very prayerful and has various services throughout the day. A must see are the beautiful side chapels.

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
