The only really interesting aspect of this 'attraction' is probably its history - and perhaps the coloured sign which marks it out. We could see the back of this sign from our hotel room so decided to wander along the avenue to see what we...More

Like many I'd heard about this place only as a bit of 80s pop culture. Not sure what it was like back then, now its a completely average to below average London street with about as uninteresting a market as you can get.

An iconic street now rather depressing. Market stalls follow the curve of the buildings, selling not very inspiring goods. If you look up above the shop fronts, the quite impressive architecture gives an indication of the grandeur and status the place probably once had. Unfortunately...More

What I enjoyed learning about Electric Avenue was that in addition to it's being in a song lyric, the reason for this street's name was that it was one of the first streets in London to get electricity. Being a well-to-do area in the early...More

The Electric Avenue is located just 2 minutes' walk away from the Brixton Tube Station. Having heard about its former grandeur in late 19th Century when this stretch of street became the first market street to be electrically lit one will expect to see at...More

Full of vendors selling all sorts of bric brac and produce. Was expecting something with more character. The Brixton Village market was slightly better. Nothing much to buy shopping wise but the food selection is varied

Legendary road in Brixton. Always lots going on. Be it during the day with the Market or at night with the many pubs, bars, and restaurants nearby.

and that does not necessarily reflect on the street - there are fruit/veg/meat & fish stalls and a bit of trash on the street. But its all part of a lively Brixton village area, which is a place to go!

Electric Avenue is a bit depressing and run down, there's a tiny and popular branch of Greggs, lots of poundshops with household tat piled high and a few decent food shops selling fresh fish, meat and veg. The only bit I really like is the...More
