We were very impressed with this visit especially the addition of Diana's special dresses on display. We bought our tickets in town which saved us a few pounds so we were happy about that. The restaurant was a bonus as we needed a drink.

I'm not sure there is a cafe with inside and outside seating but you could have your picnic before going into the palace there are lots of park benches in the park right before you enter
