Old Spitalfields Market represents one of the country's last bastions of consumer diversity and individuality. Home to an old-fashioned community of over 30 independent and large traders and a plethora of chic bohemian businesses, it has secured its place at the forefront of interiors, design, food and the arts - a market that truly embraces the spirit of modern London, an entrepreneurial and cultural melting pot that is ever-changing and developing without ever forgetting its historic past. As Samuel Johnson so eloquently said of London: 'When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." The same is very much true of Old Spitalfields Market.

Have been here a few times over the years, including when it was just starting to become the behemoth it is now. Such a shame there are so many chain restaurants in the development, but if you look around you can still find independent shops & stall holders, but not to the same extent as before. If you are prepared... More

I find that most "Christmas" markets have generally that same stuff but was very surprised by Spitalfields. We found some really interesting items that we have never seen before. The location of the market is great because there are several other market areas that are within easy walking distance and they have even more eclectic goods (new and used). The... More

We visited on a tuesday (which is not a market day like thursdays are, I think), but even then only half of the stalls were occupied, so it was a bti dull experience. Furthermore most of the shops were boring stuff.. A hat shop was nice, and som of the "real stores" there were also nice (Collectif, Cheney & Sons).

Been several times mainly as a stop off point on way to Brick Lane. Nice market in its own right with good choice of stalls and plenty eating places.

Visited in December hoping to do some Christmas shopping, There were plenty of vendors with clothes, jewelry, crafts, you name it. What impressed me the most, was the number of food vendors. There were candies and sweets, pastries and breads, savories from different nationalities. The aromas surrounded you from every corner. The only problem was I couldn't eat it all. I... More

When you want a vibrant, busy and nice place to visit and do some shopping away from the classic tourist attractions you should come here.

After hearing and seeing so much about spitalfields, we decided to visit, but was slightly disappointed with the lack of stall holders, we assumed it was because of the wintry season and that it is usually more busier in the summer months, so we will give this another review summer 2017!

Absolutely wonderful market. The prices have definitely gone up, but I still recommend it to anyone visiting London. Beautiful vintage stores and wonderful street food.

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighbourhood Profile
Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
