About
Open 7 days a week, it is the perfect antidote to the high street. We bring together small producers with local creatives and artisans, original independent retailers and a few well-known brands under one historic roof. Our daily market is home to a selection of carefully chosen traders, craftsmen, artists and artisans alike, picked for the quality of their product, and the stories they have to tell. We are interested in how things are designed, the creative process and the interesting people who produce the products you’ll find here. We champion quality and responsibly sourced products and we assess each operator individually on this basis. In the centre of the market floor you will find our ten fully fitted kitchens where we showcase exceptional contemporary and authentic cooking. We are proud to offer new levels of quality and variety in the dishes prepared by our chefs and operators, many of whom have already established great

Neighbourhood: Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.

    Hustle Bustle!
There has been a market here since reign of King Charles II in the 1600’s. Before that there was a medieval Augustinian Priory of St Mary Spital. This gave Spitalfields its name. The current building was built during the rule of Queen Victoria, in 1887. It is a beautiful, red and white building of low height. Initially it was a fresh produce market selling fish, fowl, eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables. Now it is filled with tantalising stalls. You can find lovely food from all over the world. There are Mexican, Middle Eastern, Indian, Thai, Chinese, Brazilian, Spanish foods here. There are also some unique handmade clothing and tidbits stalls here. You can see some interesting statues around this crowded market.

    Great Time
We came here after Burroughs Market, which was altogether too crowded to be enjoyable. We spent several hours here and enjoyed looking at the different booths. Lots of unique items rather than mass produced and marketed things. The food options here were much more varied and interesting than Burroughs. Lots of different ethnic choices in the stalls with lots of seating as well as established restaurants. And there is a central public restroom, which was very adequate for the crowds.

    A fabulous market
We came across this market when we were on The Jack The Ripper tour. We saw some gorgeous dresses in the window of a shop called Collectif. We came back the day later and loved the full experience of the market, it had quirky stalls. There was a wide variety of stalls where you could buy lovely gifts. The Collectif shop was amazing, the shop assistant was brilliant, she was really helpful and made sure we had clothes of the correct sizes and suggested styles to suit myself and my daughter.

    great solo trip
I went to Old Spitalfields Market to try the £5 pizza from Sud Italia. The pizza was really good. It was prepared in front of me which made the experience better. When I was at the market I saw a lot of stools that I would like to visit in the future. Most food stools had something affordable on the menu. I strongly recommend visiting Old Spitalfields Market in the summer.

Very busy funky market with a good selection of boutique shops and food options
Never been to this area of London before, decided to visit for breakfast/lunch as it was about a 15 - 20 min stroll for the hotel. There were several cool little stalls and the owners were all really chatty and friendly and lots of nice higher end branded shops which lucky for me had on their summer sales. Plenty of food options from cafes, restaurants to food stalls but oh my goodness for a Tuesday afternoon it was absolutely rammed with office workers so make sure you're seated by 12.30pm.

    Coolest Market!
What a vibrant place to visit. So much to see and do. Such a very hot day, it was hard to see it all, needed cold drinks along the way. Fun, vibrant, a bit of everything, a must on your to-do list.

‘I was pleasantly surprised how well kept, how big and the variety of stalls this market had to offer.’
I was pleasantly surprised how well kept, how big and the variety of stalls this market had to offer. It’s a short walk from Liverpool Street Station. Inside there’s multiple food stalls, ranging from Italian, Indian, Chinese and Mexican. As well as stalls selling a variety of clothing, jewellery and souvenirs. They also have toilets and an array of restaurant available. The prices are standard for London and what you’d expect to pay in a popular market in a Capital city. Sitting inside the market itself was hard to come by, especially with how busy it was. So I’d suggest, if you’re planning on eating to walk outside the market and use some of the surrounding benches/tables instead as it’s quieter and you’re almost guaranteed a seat. Overall, would recommend visiting if you’re a big foodie like me, I definitely rate in my top three markets in London along with Borough Market and Camden Market.

    Love Old Spitalfields Market!
I live in Hudson Valley, New York and I come to visit during Colorwalk where my colorful artist friends gather at your wonderful market and support the vendors and have a fab meal! So many great food venders and crafters, vintage and more. Plus a matcha shop! Definitely don’t miss when in London!

Still a hive of activity but now of a different kind.
It's great to see this previously Wholesale Fruit & Vegetable Market remodelled and buzzing with energy again. Great selection of pop up's and craft stalls, classy shops and even a fruit stand. I worked in the Market in the 1960's and visited it many times in the mid 50's so it's great to see that it still maintains some of it's original architecture while providing an exciting hub to visit.

I've visited a couple of times now. It's a lovely market which is busy and full of a wide range of stalls and eating areas. It's how I would expect a busy market area to be! I would go back and recommend to others.

There is a lot of different “restaurants” to choose from. Quite busy on a Saturday but I have been there on a week day and it’s better

Great to spend a sunny day enjoying all the stalls and vibes of this fabulous market.

Lots to eat and buy and many seated areas inside and on the surrounding areas for chats in the sun 🌞

Characterful and fun, I'll be back for sure

A great place to go with interesting and quirky stalls and some great street food stalls and restaurants. It was early in the day but it felt to be a good, relaxed atmosphere.
We will definitely go again and spend time- it seemed a lot better than Borough Market

I always love a visit to Spitalfields Market. Amazing array of food stalls. My only criticism would be that the toilets could be better!!

This place is awesome. I recommend for everyone to go. Such a colorful and rich experience with food, shopping and all of it. Even though there’s so much to do in London, I highly recommend you coming here for an afternoon. It’s really a blast…then you hit brick lane, check out some street art and you’ve got the best day ever!!

Old Spitalfields Market has been selling food products for over 350 years. The range of products has gone and down with flows for centuries. it's still a central spot for fruits and vegetables. The Market has many spots to purchase a variety of fresh products. The Market is loved by Londoners and overseas visitors, especially on weekends. We thought Old Spitalfields Market kept us looking at things to buy for hours. Bargains are common in the Marke.

I used to live near here before redevelopment. I think it’s a triumph and we visit every few months and are always impressed at how it continues to evolve and surprise. The new section on Lamb Street is a cool addition from food trucks to permanent outlets.
