Old Spitalfields Market represents one of the country's last bastions of consumer diversity and individuality. Home to an old-fashioned community of over 30 independent and large traders and a plethora of chic bohemian businesses, it has secured its place at the forefront of interiors, design, food and the arts - a market that truly embraces the spirit of modern London, an entrepreneurial and cultural melting pot that is ever-changing and developing without ever forgetting its historic past. As Samuel Johnson so eloquently said of London: 'When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." The same is very much true of Old Spitalfields Market.

Whilst on our way to another part of Spitalfields we cut through what was marked as Old Spitalfields Market and stumbled across the busy scene with row upon row of interesting stalls and a great selection of eating establishments in all shapes and sizes. A far more varied selection than more well known West End markets and we left, suitably... More

Would highly recommend a visit here. Lots always going on and great for all ages. My only criticism is that all the stalls should be offering payment via card. I would a have spent a lot more money if this was an option!

Great market with lots of things to buy and look at. Nice access to chain restaurants too and a really nice bar.

Only for your pocket really! Not sure what is best, the food, the vibe, the pop-up places, the shops around the market, the cafés.... you'll find art, old records, leather garments, beauty products. .. It is a super enjoyable place, worth a visit by tourist and locals. Be warned, spending cannot be helped

I visited the market on Friday and hence, it was a fashion and art market day. The stalls were just setting up when I visited, hence, didn't get a good look. But I definitely loved the food stalls at the market. There were stalls selling all types of food, e.g. Turkish food ( selling lovely Turkish delight which was so... More

Cheap clothes and knick nacks aren't even half the story. The food on offer comes from all around the globe. Something for every taste. At the centre was the Nyetimber (English champagne) bus. A great way to kick off a holiday lunchtime. If you're anywhere in the area and feeling peckish, do visit.

Had been here many years ago and wanted to return to see what it was like and it was actually much better than I remembered. Loads of stalls to wander around and such a wide variety of goods on offer. Antiques, clothes, collectables and some great food stands too. We went on a Sunday and it started to get busy... More

Upon my first visit, I got a bit overwhelmed. But, after some time, I navigated the stalls, buying desired clothing without breaking a sweat. Learn to haggle. Doing so will save some pounds. There are deals to be had, if you're willing to broker them. Can't wait return!

Lots of great vintage shopping, delicious street food, and locally made art. One of my favourite stops in London.

Thanks. Great atmosphere - very busy and fun. I enjoyed looking at the huge range around. The food was delicious and I cannot recommend it all enough.

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighbourhood Profile
Spitalfields
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
