Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.

This sculpture is of the Roman Emperor, Trajan, who presided over the second-greatest military expansion in Roman history. Conquests leading the empire to attain its maximum territorial extent. A very typical sculpture of a Roman Emperor wearing a tunic, holding a scroll in his left hand while gesturing with his right hand raised. A nice thing to see while in Tower Hill, especially because of its proximity to the London Wall.

The statue is a twentieth-century reconstruction that takes up the marble original preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Naples. It is located in front of the London Wall, the remains of the ancient London walls, a perennial memory of the Roman dominion on the island.
