National Express taking advantage of rail strikes
Tried to book coach return Bristol to Heathrow on-line at 07.30 on 23/6/2023 for travel 20/7/23 & 04/8/23. Price each way £17. When attempted to pay could not continue as the site was just hanging “trying to connect”. Retried at 08.30 to find the outbound journey was now double at £34, they had prevented booking earlier due to the announcement overnight of the rail strike that day! Then discovered that it was £8 each journey for more than one hold bag, and one ‘soft’ carryon, which with cancellation insurance etc brought the bill to over £80! Very poor taking advantage of travellers trying to book early & wanting to use public transport in such circumstances

    Untrustworthy
The coach broke down on the way to Luton Airport (not the first time this is happening). The staff kept saying another coach is coming, but no coach came for hours. Very poor communication and no responsibility.

    Shocking
Whilst the journey is longer by coach than train and also cheaper the experience was not good. The coach was on time, but the whole journey was ruined by the extreme heat on the coach. The air con was broken and it was unbearable and this was in February. Please make sure your coaches have the working facilities that you promote.

International disgrace of a coach station despite good National express drivers
Arrived in Terminal 3 and walked to Terminal 2 bus station Heathrow. International disgrace as Riga bus station is better than this. One cafe, one WHSMITH and dirty toilets. No information except WAIT IN LOUNGE. Lounge consists of metal chairs. Was 3 hours early and still nearly missed bus as the buses are not displayed until 5 minutes before . Terrible for Heathrow. To be fair, the drivers of National express are good and safe but this stress at disgrace of a bus station with no staff to help is so stressful. Has got worse too.

    Unreliable
Took a National Express bus from Hatfiled to Stansted, without knowing I need advance reservation. Tried calling the numbers found on a notice in the station, none of them dialed. Bus had over 40 minutes delay. I wasn't in a hurry, still had plenty of time, but I was starting to get worried I will need to take a taxi if the bus doesn't show up. In the end, I was lucky that there were some seats left in the bus and driver's portable POS still had some battery left. The bus was clean and confortabile. However I can see not being on time a huge issue - plan at least 1 hour extra if you use this bus and purchase tickets in advance from the website.

    Amazing help finding forgotten luggage
Great trip, however I forgot a bag containing valuable items and had to return to Victoria station to collect the bag. Aweis was incredibly helpful in helping us locate the bag, and reassured us it would be safe. He’s a credit to the company!

    Long uncomfortable journey
Slow journey, much pricier than usual as well (inflated due to rail strikes?), also I'm not sure if some of the roads on the journey were suitable for a full size coach. Very windy country roads around between Loughborough and Nottingham (don't know if there was a diversion or not), but journey did not feel as comfortable as in the past.

Great if the bus is on time.
This is an inexpensive way to get from London Heathrow to Southhampton however our us never showed up. It was due around 11:00 AM and everyone I would ask about it being late had a different answer of me, such as it must be traffic, it will be here in 1 hour, it will be 20 minutes etc. No annoucnemtn was made, so if this makes you anxious, you might to arrange more dependable transport. A bus showed up over 2 hours late and that's when the announcement was made. We never did find out what happened as they pulled another driver off his route to get us there. Once we arrived at the the Southampton bus terminal there were taxi's available to take us to the port, hotel etc and the small building has free wifi if you wish to call Uber. It was easy to order on line and I paid a little extra for reserved seats and a specific time. I do not know if my experience was a rarity or common event but I would maybe try them again.

    Fix your coaches
The last three times I've been on a National Express coach from Manchester to London, the toilet has been in some way out of order. This is so unacceptable for a five hour journey. National Express, fix your coaches please. Right now I am sitting on a 5 hour coach with no toilet and no way to charge any of my devices, there is just no need. Its embarrassing.

    Why change route
I used to use this coach company regularly but since they changed from Birmingham drop off to London I haven't as go to Swindon to visit family. Now I bypass Swindon on the way to London only to come back the way I came. So I don't understand the change. As Birmingham is more central

This was the first time we took a National Express Bus in the UK as we needed to travel from Heathrow T5 to Southampton to take a cruise. The bus journey in both directions was very good and relaxing and the bus drivers gave a smooth and comfortable journey. I can recommend this as a cost effective way to get between these locations.

One concern, however, was the poor (non existent) indication of the arrival of buses at Heathrow. There was a covered waiting area but there was no screen to show the time of buses arriving. As there were many arrival spots either side of the waiting area and numerous buses arriving, people had to walk up and down some considerable distance to try to see if an arriving bus was their bus.

There was no display, public address system or National Express Bus employee to help people. We used the National Express Bus App, which tracked our bus, which in our case arrived from T2/3. The App gave an idea of arrival time but the bus arrived about 30 minutes later than scheduled, causing concern if we had missed our bus.

We believe one solo female traveler from Germany, who wanted to travel on to Luton, had missed her bus, despite arriving more than one hour before.

This difficulty negatively impacted our experience. National Express Bus should improve the client experience by giving more information and assistance.

The bus station in Southampton was very small and confusing and very crowded. This bus station was really too small for the purpose. At least they did have employees in attendance to give advice.

Our advice, by all means use this cost effective service but use the National Express App to track your bus and look very closely at every arriving bus, either side of the waiting area in Heathrow T5 to make sure you do not miss catching your bus. In Southampton just ask which is the correct gate to board your specific bus.

This was the first time I've uded National Express for airport trips and booked 2 trips (London-Luton and Luton-Heathrow). On both trips my coach arrived 1 hour behind schedule. When you have a journey to the airport for a flight the last thing you need are long delays. I can understand traffic issues but if there's such a delay the company should consider running an extra coach. It seems that the coaches all travel quite long distances before they get to your stop so the chances of delays are always going to be much greater. Unlike national rail they won't give you any compensation/refund for the stress and inconvenience caused, just try to persuade you to pay for another coach ride (with discount). The coaches were fine once they arrived but if you're doing anything that's time sensitive I would advise either allowing a lot of extra time or using another provider

I recently took the bus from Cardiff to Heathrow. It is certainly an affordable option when compared to the train and it is lovely to have luggage stored in the hold underneath the bus. My seat belt did not work properly - was almost always locked in a very tight position. The seats were not comfortable for a long trip. The driver seemed to be having a bad day and I heard him speak sharply to a couple of passengers when I didn't think the passengers' comment were out of line. I don't know if the floor had been swept for a bit. On the plus side, the washroom was clean and we stayed on schedule.

Our first bus went off-route and got delayed, causing us to miss our next bus (which we had bought tickets for). We had to wait 1.5 hours in the middle of the night for the next bus, and the new bus driver who let us on was very rude. Couldn't get a refund.

Lied about there being usb’s on the coach resulting in no phone charge for majority of the journey, absoloutly no leg room at all, A/C was non existent and no windows to open, we paid 2x the amount to go back to London than coming down and yet the more expensive one was the worst, couldn’t reccomend less, absoloutly awful for a 7, nearly 8 hour coach journey

I would never normally write a review about a bus journey but this is for an exceptional bus journey with an exceptional driver. Angus was amazing. From his very pleasant greeting at 4.20 am, to him explaining to us how many passengers would be getting on at the following stop and apologizing for any inconvenience with the boarding all the way through to the end, Angus was amazing. He was calm, friendly, bubbly and fantastic at updating us in a calm and helpful way. Best experience I've ever had and I've been using National express for year. Angus should train the entire bus driving team on how to excel in customer service. Fantastic!

I arrived back from Napoli at Luton Airport at 11.45pm thinking that Thameslink and other rail services might be working. The next train was scheduled at 12.15 but then was delayed until 1.45. I sat reading and waiting and then the 1.45 was cancelled.
I thought of National Express as being an only way to London, so bought a ticket. It was now 2am and I made my way to the coach stop. A coach for London Victoria was standing in the bay so I felt lucky. I went to the coach and was told by the driver that the gate was now closed, even though I was just a few steps from getting on the coach. I told the woman that I was 72 years old and have had a terrible flight etc, so please let me on. She proceeded to tell me that she was late and to wait for the 3am coach. No heart or compassion - no customer service whatsoever. She got in the driver seat, started the engine and reversed out of there.
So, I found a Greenline bus stop with a coach ready to leave and bought a ticket (for less than Nat Express, and had a good journey to Victoria.
If I could give Nat Express -10 points I would do it, they don't deserve 1 star.

I booked an 8am coach to stanstead but the bus was more than 40 min late so had to take the train instead as I was worried I would miss my flight. Phoned them up to request a refund and they refused to issue a refund or help. Terrible service. Unreliable drivers. Do not use.

Driver is friendly and helpful. But The driver insisted I had extra luggages even though I am within limits of the terms and condition stating 2 medium bag, each within 20kg measuring no more than 70 x 45 x 32 cm is allowed to store in hold, plus a small soft backpack in service. In preparation of the trip, i measured and weight my luggages to ensure I am within limits. I had one 11inch soft laptop backpack (very small), 1 small cabin luggage (13.1 kg) and 1 medium luggage (16.9kg). While boarding, The driver insisted i am over the allowance despite showing him whats written on the ticket. he insisted what I had is considered as 3 luggages. He asked for extra luggage of 10 pounds to be paid in order to board. So I paid as i didn't want to argue and risk my journey to the airport. He didn't have change for 20 and said he will try to get change from other customer but can't guaranteert.

However, i didn't feel right and decided again to tell the driver that this doesn't make sense as I read out and showed him what's written in the ticket which clearly say i can have 2 medium luggage instead of 1 in the hold. I also said my luggage is within dimension. He gave me back my cash but i feel he still believe i am over the limit as he mentioned he does this everyday

I would appreciate if national express can ensure their driver understand the luggage allowances. Arguing with the driver on the spot with people queieing behind to board is very unpleasant. It is also unfair as we are under discretion of the driver. I could just have lost 20 pounds when I am not supposed to.
