Hated the main shopping area, with its tacky souvenir shops, tattoo parlours and cheap ethnic restaurants, but elsewhere there are some quality places to see. Loved Camden Lock and the Canalside Walk, plus there's a top class music venue, The Roundhouse. Camden Market is a real curates egg these days, all very hipster but the quality of the goods and food for sale and their prices is extremely mixed. The pubs in the area are ok, but nothing special. But if you look carefully, there are some survivors from when the area was more genuine and less touristy such as a traditional vinyl record shop (Out on the Floor Records) and a marvellous comic shop (Mega City Comics). Worth a visit, but don't expect to be wowed by it.

Got here relatively early in the day and just wandered thru the markets, enjoyed the canal and spent far too much money. We had a wonderful time here. All of us loved it. I can’t recommend Camden highly enough.

Camden Town is a couple of stops North of Central London on the Northern Line. When you come out of the Tube station turn right and head North along Camden High Street.
There are loads of great shops to have a look round. Sadly alot of the market has gone but there are still some great places to explore.
The road goes over the Regent's Canal and there is a lock there which is a focal point. There are a few places to sit and have a drink depending on what your tipple is.
Continue further up the road and on the left are Camden Stables where there are loads of places to have something to eat and also shop with some great little stalls.
If you visit at the weekend Camden Town tube station is closed to go in so your best bet is to continue North to Chalk Farm tube station or why not get a bus somewhere and get lost in the city.

There are very few places in London that can compare to Camden Town.
This place is all about going back in time to the 1960's with the hippy culture.
There're countless shops, stalls and eateries, and more hippies than you'd see anywhere else in town.

This used to be a fun place to visit, with lots of unusual independent shops, now it’s a tourist hell hole full of awful souvenir shops and tacky murals. Even Camden Market is a depressing experience these days, where before it had so many really interesting stalls selling crafts and fascinating clothes. There are redeeming features of course. The double Camden Lock and canal side walk are worth seeing, as is the poignant Amy Winehouse statue in the market. The Roundhouse and the Jazz Cafe are good music venues. But overall, this is a pretty average visitor experience.

Camden is a suburb of London just north of central London. The main station is the Tube station on the Northern Line. It is the place where the two branches from Edgware and High Barnet meet and then separate to go via the West End or City of London. They rejoin at Kennington and then go to either Morden or Battersea Power station. As a result it is a busy station with people getting off to go to the area or changing platforms to continue their journey.
There are a couple of other Tube stations in the area, Chalk Farm is at the top end of Camden and is on the Edgware branch. It is close to the Roundhouse concert venue. Mornington Crescent is on the West End branch and is at the start of Camden High Street. It is close to the Koko Club which has had some famous people grace the stage over the years.
Camden Road is part of the London Overground and is served by trains from Stratford and Highbury & Islington going to Richmond, Clapham Junction, Shepherd's Bush and Willesden Junction so there are plenty of ways to get to the area.
There are a number of other music venues near Camden Town station including the Underworld which is below the World's End pub. There is also the Electric Ballroom which has a market at weekends. The Jazz Cafe and Dublin Castle are also nearby.
I would recommend a visit to Camden for all tourists. It's a very cool area and is a great place to hang out.

I wanted to visit CT for a long time so my husband and I finally made it. Honestly I didn't get why people love it so much. Too crowded. Often you will be in a situation that people smoke to your face and you have nowhere to go to avoid it. Market is absolutely average, you will find more options on Alibaba for better deal.
Food - there are few nice Indian restaurants and samosa shop in the beginning of Camden town, however near Camden lock it feels so stuffy and unhygienic you hardly will fancy any food.
Huge problem with toilets! In most cafes there is a sign that toilet is broken (laminated note printed - yes, we believe you😃) Finally found one in Riverside shopping mall (black building with roof top bars) - that toilet was honestly my best experience of the day😂

Today we were in Camden Town, an underground neighborhood in London where there are many artists playing on the corners, gastronomy and people from all over the world. We chose to have lunch at Poppie's, voted the best Fish & Chips in England. A tip: the same dishes on the menu are much cheaper if you order Take Away. We ordered Haddock's classic Fish & Chips and it came out to £13.60 each. If you sit at the table the same meal will cost £18.95 + tip. It has!

Camden stood beside the Kentish town manor. It was the property of Charles Pratt, the first Earl of Camden, he decided to develop this area into a commercial enterprise for the educated middle class. But Scottish and the Welsh working class moved in because there was a lot of work for them at the docks, locks and the railways.Pubs were built for them as they worked hard during the day and drank heavily in the evening. Subsequently, scuffles started taking place between these people of different nations. Hence it was decided that four different pubs would be built for each group, Dublin Castle for the Irish, Edinburgh Castle for the Scottish, Pembroke Castle for the Welsh and the Windsor Castle for the English. So these fights were curtailed to some extent. This district has had some famous residents like George Bernard Shaw, Charles Dickens and Amy Winehouse. Venues like the Electric Ballroom, the Dublin Castle and the Roundhouse have proved to be the the launching pad for many other well-known singers who started their careers in this area like Pink Floyd, Cold Play and Madonna.

We actually arrived at Camden at around 10am, slightly too early as many stalls & shops were not yet open. Still plenty to see and browse without working our way through the usual crowds.
The high street shop fronts are all uniquely designed with some amazing art work - don't forget to look up!
The markets are jam packed with stalls & food stalls; the smells from the food hall is mouth watering, so many treats to choose from.
Seconds walk from Camden Town station, well worth a visit.
