The area

Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
How to get there

Hidden gem a walk away from the south bank.
Nice to look at the history and a peaceful place to walk around on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon.

Lovely garden, my young children loved the tadpoles in the pond and very nice place to relax for a little while. Would definitely recommend.

As a resident this little haven has become busy with high noise pollution. People don't seem to realise that families live here too. They were built-in the 1800's and although the gardens are a sanctuary it is also an hindrance. Not being able to open your windows due to smoke and loud conversations is not what I call a Haven. Where do the vistors urinate when there bladder is full? Why do they continue to stuff food cartoons into a full bin? How would you like a bench full of drunks outside your window? Not forgetting the place becomes a playground. The joys are better for visitors than residents.

A beautiful & peaceful space in the middle of the busy city. This little green sanctuary features lovely roses, wildflowers and a nice size garden pond.
There is also room for small picnics & several benches along the trails for resting (or reading).
Perfect place to escape the hustle & bustle of city life, if only for a moment.

Couldn’t believe there was such a beautiful little haven of peace right in the middle of London. We were invited to a celebration in the gardens & it was a perfect place for everyone. Plenty of shade for those who wanted it & sunny areas for those that didn’t. Perfect!

A lovely little garden with a pond complete with a bridge and fountain, benches, flower beds, lawn and winding paths. Mostly frequented by locals, it is a great place to have a picnic with food purchased from the nearby Borough Market.

Nice little garden with the Red Cross cottages in the background and the Shard towering on the horizon.
Perfect place to take your take away from the Borough Markets.

We grabbed some snacks at Borough Market and about 5-10 minutes away we stopped at this garden for snacks and wine. It's a great local garden. Tourists - stay away! Ha!

Most people don't know where to find it but it's nice to see the small garden and cottages.

This garden is only a very small space but it is amazing what they have done with it. It is a beautiful little garden and a very peaceful place to sit and take a time out.
