About
Acorn Farm is an award-winning, family-friendly attraction in Kirkby, Merseyside. We are open 7 days a week 10am-4pm and there is always loads to see and do! Whatever the weather, Acorn Farm offers a great value, fun day out for everyone – our admission prices are £4.00 for adults and £3.00 for children! We have a wide range of animals here at the farm, many of which you can feed and stroke. Our animals include our ram, sheep, cows, goats, pigs, horses and chickens, small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs and even meerkats! We are a working farm, so we often have baby animals including lambs, goat kids, piglets and chicks to see too. During weekends and school holidays, we run small animal petting sessions at a cost of £2.00 per person and horse rides at a cost of £3.00 per person, we often have special events happening too.

- FionaCheshire, United Kingdom100 contributionsJust amazingAnyone with little ones looking for an inexpensive but fab day out, try Acorn Farm, an urban farm at Kirkby, Liverpool. We have had a brilliant day. A lot of the staff there have Downs Syndrome and they're doing a great job! The animals are all very friendly and very well looked after. Our 2 did the small animal petting, fed chickens, ducks, alpacas, goats and sheep, stroked lots of lovely animals and their babies too and then rode gorgeous gentle horses. They have a great café and a little garden centre. All in all a brilliant day out.Hi, Fiona, Thanks for your kind words! We're so glad you had such a good day out and got to do the petting and horse rides! Hopefully we will see you soon! - Kathy MWigan, United Kingdom3 contributionsAn amazing Farm experienceFrom start to finish Acorn Farm was a magical experience for us all. It all started on the car park where we met Roddy, the sheep. Jack, my 18 month old grandson was mesmerised with Roddy and was speaking to him in his own little way. From paying the very reasonable admission charges in the well stocked shop to walking round beautifully maintained animal enclosures, the whole experience was a delight. All around the Farm there were helpers who were a credit to the venue in the way that they greeted us and directed us to different parts of the Farm. To top it all, the cafe offered a sumptuous range of dishes and a spacious seating area. Thank you for a wonderful day out. We will certainly visit again.Hi! We're so glad your family had a great time at the farm and Jack enjoyed Roddy! - Kay OakesLiverpool, United Kingdom172 contributionsBrilliant day outToday I went with my friend and baby- I loved it! It was only £4 to get in and £2 for animal feed. There were so many animals such as cows, goats, horses, and even a meerkat. We also had lunch there and decided to go for the special, which was a chicken pesto panini and chips. The chips were amazing, we didn't stop raving about them 🤣 The whole day was great value for money, and I'd definitely go again.Hi Kay, We're so glad that you have had such a good day out. - Lesleymitchell1Liverpool, United Kingdom11 contributionsGreat afternoon at Acorn FarmI really enjoyed our visit. The overflow car park had a lovely path way to the farm. Small shop and cafe. Everything was reasonably priced. You pay extra to pet the small animals and ride a horse. My grandson love it, he is 2. Staff were lovely . My only moan is that I noticed people smoking in the playground.Hi Lesley, Thanks for your review, we're glad you had a great time on the farm with your grandson. We're sorry that there were people smoking on the playground, especially as it is a no smoking site. We hope you'll be back to visit soon!Written 18 November 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 October 2024

We visited here on a Sunday as we didn’t have much else on. We got there for 11am and that was the best time as it was not busy at all when we arrived. (There was queues when we left around 1pm). We paid £9.50 for 2 adults and 1 child then it was 50p each for the animal food which is very reasonable. We paid £2.00 each for the petting animal and that was worth the money! My daughter had such a good day and she didn’t want to leave. My boyfriend loved looking at the rats in the petting area and the staff were incredibly friendly. We paid £20 in the cafe for 3 meals with desserts and drinks which I thought was good value as we were all stuffed. We will definitely be back!

Went Bank Holiday Monday so was quite busy.
Small farm park but well looked after and the animals seem happy and well cared for. Animal and bird food available at 50p a bag so good value.
Enjoyed making a fuss of the goats and sheep who do like a scratch behind the ears :-)
Can recommend the breakfast if you don't mind eating former residents of the park and the meat from the shop is a bargain.

We had a fun afternoon here. The playground provided about an hour of endless entertainment for my 2 little ones (aged 4 and 2). It was busy but didn’t feel overcrowded. We visited on a Saturday afternoon. Entrance fee is £3 per adult and £2 per child so a little pricey but we made the most of the afternoon. There is a picnic area available and a cafe which was small and too full for us to be seated so we left.
The animals are lovely for the kids to see and they can feed them with feed bought on entrance £1 a bag, however they all seemed full of this feed and didn’t really want it.
A lady came round at feeding time and let the girls feed them fruit which was nice of her.
People were friendly and welcoming.
I really don’t approve of the shop full of toys and snacks being the place where you buy your tickets. Naturally the girls saw them and wanted a toy, so next time one us will go in alone to buy tickets.
The cafe needs expanding which will benefit everyone 🙂
Horsing riding and petting is available for an extra charge (I think it’s £2.50) - there was a long line for the horse riding.
All in all I’d go back again and bring a picnic when it’s warmer.

Thank you very much for your review - we do appreciate it. We do try to keep our prices as low as we possibly can in order for everyone to enjoy their day out at the farm, we do apologise that you felt that this was pricey. During the summer months we do have our kiosk open which will sell the tickets onto the farm, plus the feed for the animals, it is only during the winter months that you purchase your tickets in the shop due to the kiosk being closed. We do have plans for a new cafe and shop and we shall keep you posted with this. We are glad that you all enjoyed your day out at the farm and thought that there was a lot to do and we hope to see you again in the near future, thanks.

Staff in the cafe are NOT considerate or even professional regarding children with additional needs. Our party was given dirty looks, head shakes and greeted with rude, ignorant, unhelpful staff members. I am disgusted at the way adults can treat children like that, especially at a children’s farm purely based on the fact they had additional needs. We were informed our children could not eat their packed lunches in the cafe, despite being surrounded by other children with packed lunches. When we informed staff that the type of business we had come from and the children could not eat at the cafe due to additional needs but staff would be ordering food from themselves, the staff member shrugged and walked away.
No adults finished their hot drinks as they were all awful and full of clumpy powder at the bottom. When asking about allergens, staff were rude and acted like it was a huge inconvenience to them.
One member of staff in the petting zoo was very considerate to the needs of our party, the other was rude and unfortunately had no awareness of autism and interfered in staff/child interactions.
I am extremely disappointed and would not reccomend this place to anyone and as a business, we will not be returning. Some serious staff training is needed regarding how to have basic manners.

I went today with 4 children- two tween boys and two 4 year old girls. Everyone enjoyed themselves in the petting session, loved feeding the animals with the animal feed as well. I think it helps if you get there early as the animals get used to the feed throughout the day.
I love the new extended part with the cows and extra sheep as I always used to forget about seeing the cows as they were (maybe some still are) closer to the car park. Most of the animals were very well behaved and great with children.
The petting session was brilliant, the two ladies were very friendly, informative, and great with the younger kids.
Three of the children with me rode the horses and loved it.
Staff everywhere on the farm were friendly with myself and the kids, despite the on and off rain it was a really nice few hours there.

Loads of farms in the area cost an arm and a leg but this one is cheap and cheerful. Kids enjoyed the petting session and the play areas are good. The trail is cute and the kids liked feeding the animals. We'll be back.

I love visiting Acorn Farm with my Grandchildren. Such a lovely place, staff are friendly and helpful. The cafe food is great quality both children's and adult menus, the sandwiches are well filled and chicken goujons are delicious. Cheap entry prices means its accessible for any budget. Will be visiting again very soon.

It was a lovely afternoon with my two daughters and then I needed to sit down so we went to the cafe but all I could over hear was a dispute with a little older lady with glasses and a chef I think, about low kitchen staff. But management didn’t sort this out so food took long to be prepared and some customers were complaining to the chef, some were shouting at her but they kept it professional and tried their best.
I used to be a manager in a cafe and I know how stressful it can be.
Even though the long wait, the food was lovely.
The cafe staff were lovely despite the stress, with a smile on their face.
The kids had a lot of fun feeding the animals. We will probably come here for an afternoon trip again.
The couple of staff at the petting area were really polite and the kids loved the rabbit!
I would recommend this farm for a little family trip.

Excellent value for money. We love taking our grandson here. It keeps us occupied for a couple of hours for such a bargain price. Staff are really helpful and pleasant. The plant sale area is really good value. The cafe is good value to. For £9.50 for all three of us it's a bargain and just big enough for two old age pensioners and a two year old.

Our café opens at 9:00am (the farm opens for admissions at 10:00am) and we serve drinks and breakfast items such as toast, beans on toast and toasted sandwiches. We don't do "full English" cooked breakfasts.

Hi, I was wondering can I take my own picnic into the farm, or do I have to purchase my food whilst I'm there?

Hi, you're welcome to bring a picnic to the farm! Otherwise, we have great kids' choices and daily specials in Oak Tree Cafe.. Even if you bring a picnic, come in for a homemade cake!

Hi
I was wondering how much the horse riding is and if there is an age restriction on it?
Thank you!
Written 10 October 2015
Hi there, it is indeed £2 for a horse ride ticket. We don't have an age restriction as such, children have to be able to sit up on their own and children heavier than 11 stone will not be able to ride. Thanks for your interest
