I highly recommend this short walk up to Orrest Head. The ground was very wet and slippy in places but this is to be expected in January. The 360 degree views at the top, including lake windermere, made it well worth while.

Lovely in winter, although my shoes got super muddy from slushy snow & I got a bit lost at one point coming down from the peak. Beautiful walk though

It is not too strenuous a walk and the path is good and solid. We had limited visibility due to mist but even so it was great to look out over the Lake District. Wear sensible walking shoes. Climbers boots are not needed.

Member of staff from the Tourist information centre told us about Orrest Head walk. We walked a steady incline for about 25/30 minutes along an easy to follow path finally reaching some steep steps. The view was amazing from the top so don't forget your...More

Snowing hard but crisp and bright when we set off for a two mile walk to Windermere then Orrest Head. Just the right distance and degree of difficulty for weather conditions and unfortunately as we got to the top it became misty so views not...More

A short uphill walk through lovely woods from near Windermere Station. Access is possible for pushchairs and powered wheelchairs until a terrace close to the top.. A slate viewfinder copied from one of Wainwright's books names the fells. The top is rather muddy in winter...More

This was quite a steep trek after a week of lazing about and overeating! Well worth the 20 minutes' hike; views from the top were fabulous.

The view is well worth the walk. There are choice of two routes one steep up rocks and one a more gentle stroll. Keep to the right after the metal gate for the gentler route.

From your description it’s ideal for you & your dog, an incline not a real climb, no special clothes needed just something warm and wind proof Try sunset it’s impressive over the lake
