We recently spent a month in the UK looking at stone circles and neo lithic monuments from Avebury to the Orkneys. Castlerigg is a quiet, tucked away gem in a stunning location. The stones aren't huge, the biggest around 2 metres but its one of those spots you might get all to yourself. We stayed at the King's Head, a... More

Majestic and peaceful setting in field. The surrounding fells change as the sun sets. Felt real connection, strange and almost eerie? Just wish I had a better camera and knowledge of photography.

A nice uphill walk from Keswick to this ancient site. There are supurb views of the surrounding landscape and you can make an interesting circular walk back to Keswick.

Worth visiting at sunset. The light bounces off the stones giving a wonderful sense of mystery. It can be busy and for some reason many of the tourist visitors insist on climbing over the stones for their selfies.

Castlerigg Stone circle is a 4,500 years old stone circle in the Lake District. We found visiting this stone circle much more exciting compared to the Stonehenge as you are allowed to actually get inside the circle and get a feel of how it looks from close up. Being situated in the Lake District adds to the aura of the... More

Lovely spot to visit, no matter what the weather, very moody and ethereal and beautiful in bright sunshine. The scenery around is stunning and there are often interesting airplanes coming up the valley and over the top. Good spot for photos, but often very busy.

This was worth a detour, the ancient stones stand on the brow of the hill. The wind blows in. The views are fantastic. The atmosphere is special. Not commercialised, some information boards by the entrance to the field. Great photo opportunities.
