Because of my psych problems I couldn't go on the tour into the mines but wished I could. Would have been a great experience. Nice shop to buy things to take home. Love being at altitude in the mountains-- since I live in the mountains at home. Lots of parking. A welcome break from the hair raising driving in the... More

The drive up is a thrill in itself. Gift store has lots of items made of slate to tempt you. Video of mine available. Tour interesting.

A visit to Honister Slate Mine when in Borrowdale or nearby is really worthwhile. Located at the top of a spectacular pass of the same name the entrance and car park do little to illustrate what treasures lie within. But this is a working mine as well as an amazing attraction open for tourism. We were unprepared for what was... More

Went there yesterday (04/06/16) with my girlfriend after finding a leaflet at the campsite we were staying at. We took a long roundabout drive up Whinlatter Pass then round by Lorton to get there. The drive was stunning and on arrival at the mine we could see the place was extremely busy. I tried to persuade my girlfriend that the... More

We took the Kimberley Tour which lasts about 90 minutes. For the first 30 minutes Donald, our guide gave a very good insight into the history and the workings of the mine. His views were informative and, as his father was a miner, you could empathise with the living and working conditions of miners in this particular mine. You are... More

Been planning on doing the Via Feratta at Honister since they first dreamt up the idea. So what better time than for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. So, 1st June 2016 we did it. Absolutely brilliant, and just like all the bumf and publicity say it is.They even arranged (champagne at the top (for a little extra). Great trip, no fuss,... More

Wonderful visit to the slate mine, knowledgeable 'Donald' gave us some great information and food for thought about life in a mine. We also undertook the Via Ferrrata extreme in the afternoon - Great way to scare the teenagers in to being quiet!. All in all great way to spend the day - well recommended
