The ruins of the castle involves a short uphill walk to the hill top. From here you can view kendal and have great views of the surrounding countryside and mountains. Inside the ruins are information boards with details of the castle's history. Plenty of grass...More

Easy to find, just outside the centre of Kendal and the views are full 360 degrees. What's nice to see is that, for a site that is not staffed, it is clean and the signage is untouched by vandals. (That's rare where I live unfortunately.)

The hike up to the Kendal Castle ruins was steadily uphill, but manageably so. Any time I I started to feel fatigued, I caught sight of a stalwart elderly Englishman toiling up the hillside thoroughly shaming me! The ruins were fascinating providing some great photos....More

We enjoyed the walk to these old ruins, and the boards around were interesting to get a feel of the history of the site.

Well worth the short climb with specatular views all round. Loads of walks to satisfy my Labrador, who walked back to the hotel with a tired smile on his face!

The climb wasn’t the easiest to the top as we had a pram, maybe wasn’t my greatest idea! But that said the views are worth it! Good historic site loved it

It’s quite a steep climb and there is a route that starts with shale path with leads to grass , so there is a route where there are no steps .but I do think you would struggle with a wheelchair x
