The collections showed an amazing range of the interests and enthusiasms Ruskin had, but also had lots of modern art. A good range of hands-on displays. Lovely relaxing spot with amazing views and lots of places to walk in the gardens and down to the...More

Great place to visit. I had a dog with me so just walked around the gardens and down to the lake. It was a nice couple of hours which would be even better in the summer. It has a nice looking cafe/restraunt and a few...More

Understand the impact of a great Social thinker here on Coniston. Take time to educate yourself and contemplate the impact Ruskin had on society. A beautiful experience with stunning views.

Visiting a friend who lives locally, he recommended this place for lunch. The restaurant was clean and well presented with a small but varied menu. Ordering from the counter we had a chicken and bacon ciabatta with chips, a sausage roll with bean salad and...More

John Ruskin, a "Great Victorian" was an important figure in the 19th Century art world, but not a significant artist himself. I would have like more information about his relationship with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. The house is not too big and more interesting than most...More

Absolutely loved Brantwood. It was recommended by our hosts at Walker Ground Manor. Delete repeated wordb. We walked round the beautiful gardens bursting with azaleas and rhododendrons then enjoyed a delicious lunch sitting on a beautiful day surrounded by spectacular views over Coniston lake. We...More

Unfortunately we visited on a rainy day, so were unable to look round the gardens. This house has stunning views and one can understand how Ruskin must have fallen in love with it. The film about Ruskin is very informative, he was the original socialist...More

We didn't visit the house but enjoyed walking around the hillside gardens. The bluebells were out and the Azaleas were just coming into bloom adding colour to the gardens. A lot of the paths are quite steep and we didn't find the garden map very...More

This was our first visit to Brantwood and we really enjoyed it. Being aficionados of all things Arts-and-Crafts and late 19thC /early 20thC. The tour starts off with a fifteen-minute film about Ruskin and Brantwood and then you are free to discover more about a...More

Ok so it was rainy and we didn't see the gardens, but come on, someone is having a laugh at your expense. Loads of the pictures not even from Ruskin.

Hello Karen. Thank you for your interest. As the house is situated on the side of a steep slope, much of the estate is stepped and on a slope. We have a wheelchair within the house for use and the house itself can be... More
