Stunning Tarn Hows offers an accessible circular (1¾ miles) walk through beautiful countryside with majestic mountain views. A great place to walk and picnic, or to begin your wider Lake District countryside adventure. There are also rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn. There is a mobility scooter available for use for those who are less able to get around the Tarn.

We parked in Coniston and took a path to Tarn Hows. It is a very scenic spot and we chose to do the circular walk around the lake which is fairly flat but has a few small hills. There are various paths to take throughout...More

The location makes this place quieter and less annoying when the clouds fall. I was easily led of the trail by looking on the scenery on a serene day

Narrow roads to get here but is a nice walk from Hawkshead or Coniston so better to walk to. There is a path surrounding the Tarn to walk around

If you are members of the National Trust the car park is free. If you're not you pay BUT all the money helps keep the place beautiful. We had a leisurely walk round and the views were breathtaking.

Just suited us as one of our party is less physically able. Good facilities at the car park. Plenty of seating on the way round the tarn if needed.

The path around the tarn is a well laid gravel path. I cannot remember any steps, so yes I would say so. Enjoy the views.
