This is genuinely one of the most beautiful places on earth . A tiny little tarn between Ambleside and Coniston . Tucked away down a narrow road ,but what a find! Tarn How's is beautiful throughout the year , from the icy splendour of winter with snow on the Langdales ,through the blossom Of Spring and Summer ,and the spectacular... More

A lovely walk from Coniston via Monk Coniston, through the walled garden & woods to a piece of heaven. The sun was shining as was the lake. There's even a small waterfall to visit too. Take a picnic and have a great time. If you walk it's all free too!

Excellent walking around Tarn Hows. We are members of the National Trust therefore did not have to pay the Car Parking Charges.

Having received membership of the National Trust for an 80th Birthday present, we did some research and found that NT, at Tarn Hows, had a limited number of electric mobility vehicles for use of visitors. We inquired by phone and made a reservation for two "Trampers" for use by my wife and I.We arrived at the car park and the... More

Attractive yes, but the most in England, well I'm not sure. With international travel the bar has been raised in terms of impressive locations. Would I make a detour to see Tarn Hows, yes and we did so, but a special journey, probably not. Sorry Grandad.

A good spot for taking photographs or taking the dog or children out for a gentle stroll. Worth a visit.

Tarn How's carpark is only 20 min drive from Ambleside. The best thing is that it has dedicated disabled carpark at the top most point and believe me that carpark has best view of tarn. Theis picturesque tarn is only 2 miles long and has a variety of activities for all age groups. Toddlers were obsessed with cows, children were... More

A lovely and romantic part of The Lakes and a must visit if you are in the Windermere/Coniston area. It's National Trust and the car park is pay and display £4.50 unless you are a National Trust member. The ice cream van (which sells very nice ice cream) does NOT give change for the car park so having come all... More

The car park is always disappointing as you imagine it will be crowded but cross the road and head down to the water and all your fears disappear. The views are amazing, the lakeside walk is beautiful and there is always a different view round the corner.

Such a tranquil and beautiful walk. Not too hard going so good for families and motor scooters/prams too. Plenty to look at and admire. Parking available.
