Beautiful hike, even though in the clouds once reaching striding edge. Best to park at car park in Glenridding and hike clockwise via striding edge to summit and then back via swirral edge. I met up with a father and his 10 year old daughter...More

Came up from Threlkeld on a walk to Glenridding which was great even if walking in low cloud. Decided to descend on Striding edge and would not recommend it for those not good with heights or on a damp day. It is also good to...More

We took the route from Thirlmere. There is a car parking there. Although the route is not clearly marked out but you can see the route as you are walking. It took us two hours to reach to the top and one and half on...More

Lots of reviews say how easy the edge routes are - they are not - one misstep and you will fall and potentially die. We climbed Helvellyn on a mixed day cloud and rain to start brighter later - we had the right kit walking...More

We have been hiking for the last 3 years, but never done a scramble before and was a bit worried about the Striding Edge route (not for me, but my wife.. well, that's my excuse). We have done the 3 peaks and most mountains in...More

I've been to the top of Hellvellyn 5 times now, 4 times in sunshine, once in the Snow (not recommended for non-experienced hikers)... However, 3 of the times I've been stuck behind really loud, arguing families going through a crisis. For myself and most hikers,...More

Be prepared for a challenging walk. Our youngest was 9 years old and he was able to do it. The weather can change in an instant so make sure you have thought about what you need. We started at Glenridding car park and took the...More

Being of the older cohort of walkers (70s) we walked up the Old Poney Trail via Greenside Mine from Glenridding. Very hot day but wonderful views from Whiteside of Striding Edge and Hellvellyn and of the surrounding mountain ranges.

Walked up Helvellyn with my 11 year old and the dog. The first part of the walk from Patterdale seemed long but quite gentle before the climb up to Striding Edge. Although some of the guide books said avoid this route unless you are very...More

Hi I don’t know if there is an easy path, but I would definitely not recommend you take striding edge if you are not comfortable and experienced with scrambling at height. It’s very precarious in places (the other edge on... More
