THE FERENS ART GALLERY IS CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR MAJOR REFURBISHMENT AND WILL REOPEN EARLY 2017.

Opened in 1927, the award winning Ferens Art Gallery combines internationally renowned permanent collections with a thriving programme of temporary exhibitions. We also run a lively education and events programme that includes tours, talks and art workshops.

The gallery's first-class permanent collection of paintings and sculpture spans the medieval period to the present day. These include European Old Masters, particularly Dutch and Flemish, portraiture, marine paintings, modern and contemporary British art, including video. Highlights include masterpieces by Frans Hals, Antonio Canaletto, Stanley Spencer, David Hockney, Helen Chadwick and Gillian Wearing.

Have popped in numerous times and always been pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of the exhibitions and art on show. Some real world class stuff too, the odd Canaletto and a few other very big names...

This art gallery is well laid out and is very nice inside. There are plenty of things to see depending on your taste. They have a children's section with interactive bits and a cafe for a little stop for some cake!

Enjoy the art gallery, then sit back & relax with a cup of coffee/tea & a delicious cake. Staff very friendly, not an extensive menu, but what's on offer is very good.

I tried to visit Sunday 14th August 2016. In case you were not aware. Hull has been chosen as a City of Culture 2017. This means that the centre is like a building site; roads, pavements etc all being reconstructed. The gallery is closed (see picture) and, according to a member of staff working at the Maritime Museum opposite, will... More

Checked out the web site prior to the journey - news of the closure is there if , and only if you read it very carefully. Only myself to blame I hear you say and you may well be correct , but on the showing displayed by the rest of this City on that day I shall be reluctant to... More

This a brilliant gallery but get here soon. In 2017, we will be the City of Culture and the City will be bungled with visitors. So get here early and feel the friendship of the wonderful people of Hull

Well laid out galleries but it is closed at the moment to be ready for the city of culture in 2017. Enjoy when it reopens.
