THE FERENS ART GALLERY IS CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR MAJOR REFURBISHMENT AND WILL REOPEN EARLY 2017.

Opened in 1927, the award winning Ferens Art Gallery combines internationally renowned permanent collections with a thriving programme of temporary exhibitions. We also run a lively education and events programme that includes tours, talks and art workshops.

The gallery's first-class permanent collection of paintings and sculpture spans the medieval period to the present day. These include European Old Masters, particularly Dutch and Flemish, portraiture, marine paintings, modern and contemporary British art, including video. Highlights include masterpieces by Frans Hals, Antonio Canaletto, Stanley Spencer, David Hockney, Helen Chadwick and Gillian Wearing.

Newly refurbed gallery. Visited on a cold Sunday in January, the place was packed with all ages. The Francis Bacon exhibition was particularly interesting. Hull being UK City of Culture 2017 means that there will be lots more interesting stuff during this year so well worth visiting regularly. Really enjoyed the visit.

Centrally located the newly refurbished gallery is set to show some world class exhibits during Hull's City of Culture year 2017. The gallery was busy today (Saturday) with exhibits ranging from local art (many of which are for sale) to a special exhibition of Francis Bacon works. Plenty to see for all age groups. My ten year old grandson loved... More

Visited the Ferens art gallery during Hull's 2017 City of Culture In January. There where quite a few more people in the Cafe than normal, had tea and toasted tea cakes here Many times before. This time the Staff simply could not cope with 5 or 6 people wanting to be fed and watered. They seemed not to know how... More

Popped in to see the new revamped gallery and of course a huge selections of art and paintings, also had a bite to eat in the Cafe. This venue is a must to visit when in the town centre and is free entry.

Newly re opened after refurbishment I found my trip here to be very enjoyable and free. The place was buzzing, but not so busy that it was cramped. There is so much to see and I think you would need a good few hours or a couple of visits if your are really interested. The work by local artists was... More

Now open and very much worth a visit . It is very easy to find the gallery and you will find the Hull people very helpful. The gallery is pleasantly warm and one could easily spend several hours here. We shall definitely return regularly. There is a cafe which we did not use but appeared very nice and the toilets... Ferens has always been a place to call into and see excellent art. Now it is even better. The refurbishment is superb and there is some wonderful pieces on display. I am sure the staff must have worked very hard to open the new gallery. A visit is highly recommended.
