I love the Gulbenkian, the cafe serves decent drink and food (although I have only had the cakes). I mainly use the cinema as the selection of films is exceptional, including some great arthouse movies. Its also cheaper than going into Canterbury and avoids the cost and hassle of finding a parking space.

Theatre and cinema that are not always so mainstream. Dip into different media and foreign cultures. Great cafe with bar options and restaurant food.

Went with my family to watch a comedian. This venue suited the performance perfectly. Great seating areas. Not a bad seat in the place, good views all round. Space too for wheelchairs. Will happily go there again.

A very comfortable auditorium with good views and a modest capacity. Very suitable for plays, smaller scale shows or concerts. The lobby has a decent food court offering hot and cold drinks, hot food or snacks. Recommended especially for before hand as there isn't much else nearby. Plenty of seats and not too cramped. There is also a cinema in... More

We went to see a musician perform here and it was fantastic. There is no gap between the stage and the audience making the venue intimate. The warm up act and main turn were close enough to be able to chat freely with everyone. Only downside was the that the bar was closed after the event and at £8 a... More

The music event in the bar area ...Maiuko and Funk act. Really enjoyable... better than we thought but why do modern buildings have to have such a poor environment? Little choice of wine...then we had to have nasty plastic "glasses" with some ad logo on them. Do white table and chairs and no curtain over the rear door which had... More

Hi Nick and thanks for writing a review. The Cafe Stage is a relatively new space for us. You are right that it is not a space purpose built for performance (hence we have added the curtains and that door has to remain uncovered as a fire door), but we felt we needed somewhere to hold performances in a relaxed... Great venue - not renowned for it fittings or style (which are of course modern and not grand like the olde days of theatre) but this venue has generously raked seats ensuring a good view of the stage from almost any position. That counts for a lot. :)

Singing Haydn's Creation is a challenge, one that was made easier and more special by performing in the Gulbenkian last weekend. The hall itself is ideal for choral performances; the seating is cleverly designed and comfortable, and the acoustics are marvellous. Similarly, the theatre's facilities are first class, as are the staff. A very special place!

Hi Mitch - sorry for my slow response but thank you for your comments and glad you enjoyed singing. On a small point of detail (being very honest!) you performed in the beautiful Colyer Fergusson Hall which is next to the Gulbenkian Theatre, but all part of the same creative centre! More

Currently hosting a programme of "Folk in the Bar" tonight we went to see the Poozies! A superlative performance from the 4 girls, Mary's playing of the electric Clarsach (Gaelic for Harp) was just sublime as were the a Capella numbers, they harmonise so well. The venue is small enough to enable you to enjoy a really intimate performance although... More

Excellent value. I was working in the theatre and they made me exactly what I asked for. All of the food looked lovely.
