Overview
More
Exhibits of local interest from pre-history to the present day: the Romano-British brooches and coins from Nornour; the Bryher Sword and Mirror; the Civil War in Scilly; finds from many shipwrecks; model boats; collections of birds, shells and clay pipes; an old Scillonian kitchen and much, much more. The Museum is in Church Street, Hugh Town, St Mary's, half-way between the Town Hall and the Parish Church. We have an excellent reference library and a growing collection of family history records, accessible to the public by appointment with the Curator.

We spent 3 hours in the museum on a wet morning along with several other tourists trying to stay dry and warm! We had come to expect higher prices on the isles for everything and were pleasantly surprised at the low entrance fee of £3.50...More

Fascinating artefacts and information boards - far too much to look at on one visit! The details of all the shipwrecks are incredible and also liked the shells, seabirds and Harold Wilson cabinets.

Superb, packed with information - all the boards very readable, too - and made most welcome. Looked forward to learning the history of the islands and was not disappointed.

This smallish museum has all the things you'd expect: ships equipment, models, history of wrecks, birds and sealife, and a few that take you by surprise. We especially liked the section on archaeology, including a very rare bronze sword and lots of pottery

A superb range of artefacts, arranged with well researched commentary, telling the history of all aspects of Scilly life. Staff and volunteers are helpful and infectiously enthusiastic! A must-visit while you're here.

This is an ideal place to visit, as we did, on a rainy day. The museum is near the centre of Hugh Town not far from the town hall and tourist information centre. The cost of entry is £3.50. The displays are on two floors...More

So much squeezed in to a tiny building. Lots of local history, could take a whole day to read it all if you're really committed.

Considering the size there's a lot to see and some good history of The Isles. Ideal for passing the time for an hour or two, good value and friendly staff.

Considering this is a tiny museum inside an ugly concrete block in a tiny town on a small island several hours away from the mainland it is incredible. If there is any fault with it, it is the sheer amount of stuff to look at....More
