Sited at the end of the High Street next to the Bus drop off point is a bit of a let-down for our greatest Monarch but still an uplifting prescence.

I was in Winchester for a couple of hours, and 1 of the 1st things you see as you come over the bridge into the High Street, is this Statue of King Alfred. This really is a Great Statue.

I saw the marvellous statue of King Alfred and he can be seen standing at the bottom of the main thoroughfare in Winchester. A very fine figure.

The legend of King Alfred is fundamental to Winchester, but this statue between the town hall and a bus station is not the best way to appreciate his achievements in beating the Viking invasions!
