History of Southampton

This building as you can see is Tudor in Architecture. It used to be an old wine house but now not sure if it is open to the public

Cities are full of rushing people and traffic but find this old area of Southampton and you have found the best of the city. Do pay for the hearing guide to get the best experience as the story unfolds to the sounds of the past. This is British medieval and you will never forget it.

Very photographic, and worth seeing but it looked firmly locked and judging my the refuse around the front door has been closed for a while.

The museum closes early (at 3 pm, at least when we went on a Friday) but it's relatively cheap (£5 adult, £4 student) for what you get. An audio tour guide is included in the price and that was very interesting to listen to. Some of the displays are interactive and the first part of the tour is outside in... More

Worth a look from the exterior, but not longer open for public inspection. Grab a photo and read the history posted outside of the Medieval Merchant's House.

Really interesting old building, the information board provided lots of fascinating facts on the history of the medieval merchant's house. Well worth a visit.

Fascinating look into what I presume is an authentic medieval merchants house. All the rarer given Southampton was near bombed into dust during WWII.

Whilst exploring the older parts of Southampton I came across this very old and pretty building known as the Medieval Merchants House, its strange seeing such an old building next to modern places. I was unable to visit inside as it close during the winter months, but I will return when in the area next.

Had a look round outside, but not open between November and march. We would have paid to go inside, if it had been open.

Although we didn't have time to stop and see this dream of a tudor building properly - it stuck in my mind - next time will spend some time there - exceptional tudor building brown and white not black and white as are a lot of the renovated ones. Southampton was great a great surprise - a small city and... More
