Great Christmas show!

We loved the Christmas musical in this beautiful old building. The costumes and sets were great and the singing excellent. Staff were welcoming and friendly. The seats are quite... read more

We booked to see Joseph to see our daughter in the choir for the show, what a surprise. What a lovely theatre close to Portsmouth and Southsea station, just a short walk past the guildhall, plenty of pubs in the area for pre show drinks, special mention to the Brewhouse and Kitchen which is next door with a great selection... Well worth a visit if only to sample the cafe and to see the interior of this old building. A beautiful building restored to charm and elegance with a lovely little cafe thrown in. The menu is limited but everything made on the premises including the cakes, which I would recommend. The staff are efficient and helpful. It's gets very... More

We'd never been to a production at the New Theatre Royal before but we certainly will again! Thanks to Bill Kenwright we enjoyed a top professional show of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat starring Joe McElderry yesterday in very comfy seats with plenty of legroom! We now feel that we don't have to travel to London to see a... More

Wow, what a venue and an excellent show. We visited this theatre for the first time to see this amazing show. The staff here are so good and really personable. The majority are volunteers who really enjoy what they do. The theatre itself is really quaint and packed with character. Every seat has great view of the stage and you... More

We loved the Christmas musical in this beautiful old building. The costumes and sets were great and the singing excellent. Staff were welcoming and friendly. The seats are quite low, but booster cushions are available for children.

The theatre was nice , sitting was not very comfortable The row behind was so close that the slightest move was felt by my back The worst thing was the men behind were aloud to go to the pub next door to get more beer when the theatre bar was closed this was during the show then I ended up... The New Theatre Royal and the Kings Theatre are two superb old entertainment venues in Portsmouth. Shows, music, plays etc. etc. are on offer at both. The NTR is a friendly place where the majority of staff are volunteers or Uni students. NTR has had a lot of money spent on it over the recent years and there are now... More

We bought the tickets well in advance and took up the very reasonable offer of included parking. The walk from the car park took about 2 minutes and there was no queue when we got to the theatre .We were a bit early but were shown straight into the bar small but well staffed. After a short wait we were shown to... I would sit in this theatre just for the novelty of a comfortable seat that doesn't feel like I should chop 6" off my legs. Great acts too
