The Nelson area is well laid out but not the main attraction. By walking throughthe museum you will see how the Royal Navy progressed and how it has become a part of our Armed Services today.

Part of the Historic Dockyards at Portsmouth this Museum is rather overshadowed by the Mary Rose and HMS Victory which everyone must choose to visit first and only possibly get around to this Museum at the end of the day. I think it well worth prioritising as there is so much to see and discover.

I felt given the long history, role and size of the Royal Navy, the museum would be much bigger. Overall, quite small and limited.

Full of history, full of artefacts but not dull like some museums can be. It's packed full of history from the start up to the present day. The displays are so well presented and the info doesn't drab on. In fact it gives just enough and keep you engaged. Walking round there are some outstanding models on show. They are... More

A good museum of the Royal Navy with plenty of exhibits although it is geared a little bit too much towards small children so has been dumbed down a bit too far. Included in the price for the dockyard so worth visiting.

Amazing amount of exhibits & information laid out in an interesting way that keeps your attention. You probably need to have some prior knowledge of Royal Naval history but still a great experience for anyone.

Spent some time visiting here as part of a package visiting the Portsmouth Victorian Christmas market. This is virtually the history of the Royal Navy plenty to see and lots of interesting facts. If you like history and in particular Military history this is a must for you. Plenty of models and stories of famous Navy battles and ships. Highly... More

Well displayed artifacts many on Admiral Nelson. Gives you more insight into this great historic figure. Ticket is part of the Historic Dockyard.

Interesting survivor of the Dardenelles campaign. Perhaps one day a suitable engine and boiler will be found.

We visited HMS Warrior (an outstanding exhibit). We could have spent more than a day. HMS Victory took our breath away. However, Since our last visit (10 years ago) we noticed quite a lot of changes, some appeared as a result of decay. There is a lack of information about the changes e.g. Missing rigging an masts etc. Our biggest... More
