Fascinating house , tales of which are made so interesting by the family who conduct the tours . We were lucky to have Mr Lowsley - Williams who was very amusing . I believe his daughter Caroline now does the tours . She is funny and will probably tell you stories of the filming that takes place there , Poldark... More

Have attended 2 weddings and several parties at Chavenage House. The venue is a wonderful old house, with log fires. A bit draughty in winter but still cosy. It is the home of the owners but you are made very welcome and looked after well. The place has not been over modernised with original stone floors in places etc but... More

As many others have noted this is a family business and the family all have that wonderful easy touch of privilege, humour and a job of work that is to preserve their heritage and yet make it accessible. The Cromwell bedroom entirely clad in Flanders tapestries from the 1400's with its short bed, bare boards and ghost will live with... More

We recently visited Chavenage, I can recommend anyone to visit this wonderful house full of history and fabulous stories told to you by a member of the fantastically welcoming family that own it. We will definitely return.

As avid Poldark and Larkrise to Candleford fans, we were eager to visit the historic setting for these two remarkable series. It was quite a challenge to find Chavenage, but it was so worth the effort to get there. We were able to join a tour given by the owner's daughter. What a delightful experience! She provided detailed accounts of... More

The tour was led by the brother in law of the owner, so that immediately personalised it and added value. The owner's wife was also part of the welcoming party in the entrance hall. Despite the fact that a lot of their income will be derived from television deals etc, the whole place had an uncommercialised and local feel to... More

We were given a delightful tour and it's history by family member who still lives within the house. We had an insight to its long list of famous guests throughout it's lifetime together with the ghosts or strange things within! Lovely to see an old house steeped in history that is still run by the family and kept "grounded" rather... More

Visit the house, often meet the family. Famous as a film set and for ghost hunting. Been in the family for many years.
