Dates to 14th century or so, compact and very well built. It’s more a barracks than a residential castle. To its rear is the River Grebe, the marshes where Mapp and Lucia were swept to the sea.

Loved this place. A small museum that allows you to feel some of the exhibits and get a flavour of the past. Don't forget to visit the Womens tower and watch "Mary" getting in trouble with her warder.

We went and had a wonderful visit at this museum it's fascinating. The gentleman at the desk knew his history and it made it more enjoyable. Bought a book about the ghosts of Rye very good value. A real gem of a place to visit.

Although this is a small museum, it wasn't costly to get in. Some well presented items to view, a great place to spend an hour or more!

Very interesting with a lot of little items to see. Great herbal garden on the way to the woman tower. Good explanation of a prisoner day. Learn from where the word “ distillery” comes.

Some interesting exhibits and displays especially the audio presentation in the Women's Tower. Also some lovely views of the surrounding area from the top.

Castle looks very small but so much to see. Lots of history to read about and visual displays and things that you can get involved in too. Great for kids and adults. Worth a visit, with stunning views.
