We were with friends in Weymouth and the weather was wet and miserable so we decided to go to Sherborne castle and I am glad we did, the house was originally built by Sir Walter Raleigh and expropriated when he fell out of favour and...More

If you have to visit Sherborne Castle only visit the lovely grounds on a sunny day as the castle is full of upper class stuck up unfriendly guides who spend their whole time telling you not to do things. This is made worse by signs...More

This property is more of a stately home than a castle. There are ruins of the old castle which can be seen on the other side of a lake. Staff there very friendly and helpful. Parking on the grass outside the front of the property....More

Miserable journey, in two minds whether to visit Sherborne Castle, decided to and thrilled we did. Car parking very close to the castle, no long walk to the entrance. And such and entrance Bill was at the reception, such a charming and informative man. He...More

We did not go into the house (save that for another time) as it was a glorious autumn day so savoured the gardens and grounds, dominated of course by that 50 acre lake. All were beautifully kept with fine and historic speciment trees and shrubs...More

Sherborne Castle once the home of Sir Walter Raleigh offers a great experience. The house has belonged to the same family since 1617 and is full of interesting furniture, porcelain and portraits accumulated over the centuries. Wonderful Capability Brown grounds too.

I feel that this place is not one of the very best of English country houses, not least because, while there are many paintings, few are of the highest quality. Nevertheless there is plenty to interest anyone with a feel for history, furniture, paintings, porcelain...More

Go into the castle drive, pay admission at the ticket box, you are then directed to the castle and parking. It is a large area close to the castle
