Advent carols by candlelight

The Abbey was splendid in candlelight. The choir was magnificent. The readers were splendid and it was a most uplifting experience. Cushions on the pews were an unexpected bonus.

The windows and the light coming in on a sunny day is an absolute delight. Many people may walk past this building, but I advise that you visit. It was wonderfully peaceful. While there do try and visit the Dorsetshire Regiment chapel behind the main altar.

We were lucky enough to be able to attend one of the regular lunch-time organ concerts held most Wednesday as well as sung evensong. This gave us a a couple of chances to take in the beautiful old building. Made to feel most welcome.

I think this is one of the most beautiful Abbeys in the UK. The fan vaulting on the main isle is second to none. It's very clean and well kept together. It's quite vast inside. But really worth looking into, if your in the area.

It would be a rare individual who never needed to sit or stand and stare for some moments; to contemplate. This is a fine place to do it if you are making a "secular visit". the famous ceiling is certainly something to see and there is a special mirror-table that can help you do this without bending your neck. Called in late afternoon with the sun pouring through the magnificent stained glass windows. Met by a very nice gentleman who was able to point out things of interest to us. Well worth a visit.
