Gold Hill, well known for the Hovis “Boy on a Bike” advert, this modern museum is set in two historic buildings. One was once the priest’s house and still has a “squint” through the wall to St Peter’s church; the other provided basic lodgings for traders at the market on Gold Hill.

A lovely museum, with displays laid out in different rooms and on different levels, with items of interest for adults and children. It is particularly child-friendly.

Gold hill is well worth the walk up and down being the star of the Hovis advert from the 70s (?). Well preserved cottages.Area has an interesting history. Unfortunately the museum was closed at the time of our visit but looked interesting and is free.

Great place to soak up the local history with the grandkids. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. Living here you tend to miss out on this little gem by walking past. Well worth walking down the steps and into the past.

Although I live locally I visit the museum regularly with the children I look after. I love the fact that what ever the age, the children are always welcomed and encouraged by the staff to take Part in activities (ringing the bells is always a favourite). It may be a small museum but it is packed with history.

The museum at Gold Hill is free to enter and run by volunteers. There are several rooms with artefacts from different eras. There is also a small garden where you can sit and enjoy the views. Well worth a visit, very helpful staff.

Visited with my husband 23 September and walked down Gold Hill where the Hovis advert was made many years ago. I've seen it on the TV but didn't realise how steel it was and how picturesque too. We then went to the Museum which is run by very enthusiastic volunteers who are very happy to chat to you about the... More

This is a little gem tucked away at the top of Gold Street. It is like the tardis with masses to see in a number of well laid out rooms. It is run by volunteers who are friendly and welcoming.

A lovely little museum run by volunteers. This is a very interesting place, make sure you look out for the wall hanging quilt, it is beautiful and is all about Shaftesbury. Upstairs there are lots of old photos of Shaftesbury, paintings of Gold Hill in times when markets were held on the hill. In one cabinet there were a pair... More
