Built in 1926 this fabulous, funicular railway has transported hundreds of thousands of people up and down the cliffs from Babbacombe to Oddicombe. Popular with holidaymakers and locals a trip to the English Riviera is not complete without a visit to this lovely railway. Down on Oddicombe Beach there is a gorgeous, hidden away beach with seasonal watersports and a great bar/bistro/café. Perfect family beach.

Travelled up from the bottom as the hill is a steep one to climb at the end of the day. Lovely carriage, friendly staff, reasonable cost. Wheelchair accessible.

A great method to access Oddicombe Beach. Well signposted from the Downs, and run by volunteers of the Railway Trust. Be sure to visit the Museum on the Beach, again run by volunteers, and providing all the history of the railway, from conception to the...More

This was fun and brought back happy childhood memories of beach holidays. The staff were pleasant and everything ran like clockwork. The times of the last car were well displayed which I was very relieved about as I would probably have slept on the beach...More

This is a very steep long hill if you walk it, hard going up or down. By contrast, the Cliff Railway / Funicular takes you down and up between Babbacombe Downs and Oddicombe & Babbacombe beaches with a pleasant ride through the woodlands and a...More
