Since its foundation in 1196, Torre Abbey has witnessed, survived and even played a role in some epic moments of history. It is one of the best buildings in the country to tell the story of 800 years of Catholicism between 1196 and 1930. This museum uses a clever mix of authentic artefacts with hi-tech interpretation. From talking portraits and statues to interactive displays and one of the largest fine art collections in the South West, there really is something for everyone. Follow the garden trails or pick up a family guide or Experts' Choice to discover many hidden mysteries. With a wealth of exotic plants, the gardens are a tranquil haven of beauty and pleasure and the perfect setting in which to relax, stroll or picnic. Children can explore the garden and bring the Abbey to life using our special discovery backpacks. Browse our shop stocked with a range of souvenirs, gifts and books or sit down and enjoy a selection of drinks, snacks and light meals in the tearooms. The house, Spanish Barn and Palm House are licensed for civil weddings, partnership ceremonies and christenings. Torre Abbey can also cater for functions, corporate hospitality or training events. A varied programme of events takes place at Torre Abbey throughout the year. Tours of the house are available out of hours to groups of 30 or more. Following the recent restoration project, the Abbey now boasts a new educational suite which provides opportunities for students of all ages to get involved and explore the Abbey's history.

We visited last Sunday but lack of staff meat that the house was not open. Fortunately the lovely gardens were open to visitors. OK so late November is not usually when gardens are at their best but there was still colour and the hot houses were interesting. The birdlife in the garden area was prolific. A lovely way to spend... More

Right in the heart of Torquay, the abbey has had a long and interesting history which can be followed here and some really quirky facts. The gardens still have a bit of interest even in November but the cactus and palm houses where wonderful.

Very interesting old building dating back to the 12th century, well worth a visit but leave yourself plenty of time as there is a lot to see and read. Nice little cafe there as well.

We were staying with family in Torquay and visited the Abbey and grounds this summer, as guests of Torre Abbey members we were invited to participate in a quiz in the Abbey which was good fun

This is a really interesting musium and it is definitely worth a visit. There are some very cleaver special effects used to illustrate the history of the building which were really effective.

This was a lovely place to visit on a lovely October morning. The grounds are worth strolling through and it was great seeing the tame squirrels gambolling on the grass. Must be a lovely place to visit in the summer.
