I enjoyed my recent visit to Plymouth Synagogue as part of a group from Compton Methodist Church. Jerry, the tour guide, was able to provide a wealth of information setting the synagogue in its historic context and providing information on the customs and practices of the Jewish faith. Jerry has a light hearted and witty style and has a huge... More

Moor's Edge U3A had a visit arranged to the Synagogue; Jerry the custodian had a group of around 20 of us totally engaged listening to him. He is passionate about keeping the building and its history alive and was a font of knowledge. We heard about the history of early Plymouth and why a Jewish community was set up in... More

We visited this very old Synagogue with a group from our Church and found it very interesting. Beautiful inside and even tasted some kosher biscuits with a cup of tea. Apparently it's the oldest Ashkenazy Synagogue in Europe.

In the centre of Plymouth and only a few hundred metres from the old docks and shops this was truely a hidden gem to find. For anyone wishing to know about a faith, a culture of the jewish society you should not miss a trip to this place. (approx 3hrs) However the scope of the tour also takes into account... More

I took the tour of the Synagogue on Sept. 7th. The tour was given by Jerry, a retired Army Veteran who now is the caretaker of the synagogue. It was by far one of the best tours I have ever taken anywhere. Jerry's passion for the history and importance of the place comes through in every word he spoke. Jerry... More

An absolutely brilliant and informative tour. A must for any visitor or local alike. Jerry's passion for this subject which encompasses the history of the Plymouth Jews, the Synagogue and other intriguing factors is quite evident in his deliverance. A thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience.

This guided tour was by far the best experience we had in Plymouth! We love the city, and Jerry told us about the history of both the synagoge and the city. The event was further enhanced by the extremly charming Dexter. The time just flew by and we wish to recommend anyone with an interest in history to give Jerry... More

I can only re-iterate what others have said: Jerry gave us a very informative and entertaining tour of the synagogue, which taught us about not only the history of the Jewish people of Plymouth but also the buildings and people in its vicinity. His knowledge was excellent.
