Nearly missed it.

We walked straight past - partly because it was pouring with rain. They could make more of it I think.

Located down on the Barbican, the archway is a good place for a tourist (American ideally) to get a photograph of where their history all began.

It was a warm sunny day when we visited the Mayflower Steps. For us, it was a wonderful sense of awe looking back into history; a sense of wonder as to how those Pilgrims felt as they stepped down the same stone steps as we were standing on, and left what they regarded as civilization, not knowing their fate and... Its been years since I visited this place, the plaques were informative, and the place is well maintained. Worth a look if you are in the area.

As an American who lives in the UK, and finally making my way over to Devon and Cornwall, this spot in Plymouth was a bit obligatory. Having worked with many a bloke from Plymouth over my years in the offshore oil industry, their stories of the anticlimactic nature of these steps was not overstated in the least. At the time... This has got a bit OTT with Mayflower plaques etc, but evocative for reminding ourselves of the search for religious freedom and the sheer unpreparedness of the travellers, and the risks they took. Conditions on that ship were truly appalling.

The steps are good to visit to see where the Mayflower departed for the Americas. Good on a nice sunny day or a clear crisp evening with the lights on the water behind.

I spent Thanksgiving 2015 here. it was great! Soon (2020) it will be 400 years since the Pilgrims sailed. The 'real' steps are underneath the ladies toilet in the Pub Admiral McBride... Go see the landlord and have a beer.

It is nice to imagine these are the steps that Pilgrims departed for a new life in the new world seeking religious freedom in 1620. The steps are more symbolic rather than historic. It at least maintains Plymouth links to the early colonies of America and the spot where the Pilgrim Fathers departed from on the Mayflower. It is a... More

Not quite sure how they can be described as the Mayflower steps when in actual fact they're not! I was told by locals that the real steps are supposedly underneath a local pub called 'The Admiral Macbride'. It's a nice idea to have a photo here particularly if you're a visiting American but it's quite disappointing to discover it isn’t... More
