The paddle steamer Kingswear Castle is the last remaining coal-fired paddle steamer in operation in the UK today. She was built in 1924 at Philip & Son of Dartmouth.

The Paddle Steamer Preservation Society spent 15 years fully restoring her to her former glory offering river trips on the Medway from 1985. In late 2012, she returned to the home waters of the River Dart after an absence of 47 years.

What fun to travel up the river dart on a paddle steamer. steam engine driven by coal with an engine that dated back to 1910. The fun was added to with the narrative from Dave with a great sense of humor. This 1 hour cruise was a real delight. Drinks were available on board, both alcohol and soft drinks.

Spur of the moment trip booked moments beforehand on a veteran paddle steamer where the engine is on view. Hours trip around the harbour and up river with humerous and informative commentary from the crew. Refreshments available on board. Lovely activity for a fine day.

We have recently travelled on this paddle steamer. You are given a commentary on the history and different areas along the River Dart. This included naval history and also about the infamous Agatha Christie. If you are lucky, as we were, we got to see a baby seal resting on a buoy. The captain and crew were a credit to... More

We had a lovely time on this cruise, and it was much better than I thought it would be. The commentary was good though a bit difficult to hear at times. The engine throbs along and it is a nice atmosphere.

Travelled to Dartmouth from Torquay to ride on this magnificent paddle steamer and arrived in time to catch the twelve o clock sailing. We used the park and ride and paid five pound all day parking that included our return fair to the quay and back on the regular shuttle busses. We stepped off the bus and were directed to... More

What a beautifully restored boat this is. We had a glorious day in Dartmouth, having caught the boat round from Brixham. We upgraded our ticket for the river trip so that we could go on the paddle steamer and it was well worth the extra £5 each. The wood panelling, the shining brass fittings, the comfortably cushioned benches and the... More

Beautifully restored. The last coal fired paddle steamer in the UK. Originally built in Dartmouth, it now offers trips on the Dart between Dartmouth and Totnes. A really peaceful ride, past Greenway House, Sharpham vineyard, herons, deals and kingfishers if you are lucky. You can actually watch pistons of the engine moving.

Just over an hour of relaxation as the Paddle steamer navigated to the mouth of the river dart and then up towards the start of the Greenway estate (as it was low tide).
