Tate St Ives will be closed until Friday 31st March 2017.

The refurbishment of the existing Tate St Ives building has proved more complex than anticipated. After careful consideration we have decided to continue the building work through the year and we will reopen the refurbished Tate St Ives in March 2017. We will continue work on the new galleries and building over the summer 2017. The fully completed new Tate St Ives, encompassing the existing building and the extension, will open in autumn 2017. The planned exhibition season for summer 2016, The Studio and The Sea will open to the public on Friday 31 March 2017.

I really enjoyed this - it is not for everyone as it is obviously fairly modern but I found it really interesting and it is worth visiting for the gorgeous location as well as the concentration on local artists throughout the years. The shop is lovely and sells some beautiful memorabilia too.

Learnt a lot about the St Ives art scene, and it's links elsewhere. A beautiful building, very calming -loved the semi-circular gallery reflecting the outside views. A thought provoking and pleasant couple of hours.

I was pleased to see family events advertised at the gallery, so took along our 2 and 5 year olds. However on entering the room inviting families to come and join in the art making our progress was halted by a member of staff telling us we needed to have another look around then the children could come back to... If you stay in St. Ives, you must definitely visit the Tate Gallery. If you are interested in modern art - it is a place which cannot be missed out. Enjoy the view from the inside of the Gallery through the big panorama window. Wow!

I like the building even though it already has a period flavour. The cafe on the roof is not bad especially if you have a table by the window or there are light winds only so you can sit outside. The permanent and travelling collections on display here are good but the temporary exhibitions tend to upset those who aren't... More

Lovely to see the permanent collection of the famous St Ives artists but best of all is the design of the gallery - the windows and their changing views have to be seen to be believed and the use of colour and clever architecture is fantastic.

You MUST do the tour, otherwise you miss the most amazing information. Not just about modern art but about the building, which has the most intriguing history. One wall is massive and reflects the sea. Magical and ever changing but always stunning. Ann Porter was our excellent guide and she is passionate and tuned in. We learnt so much. Loved... More

The Tate has undoubtedly breathed life into St Ives and made a fantastic contribution to the town. But as it celebrates its 20th anniversary perhaps it could get some more inspiring exhibits? In the current exhibition there are a few thought provoking pieces surrounded by a lot of rather facile art of the type that got modern art a bad... More
