Tate St Ives features work by iconic 20th century artists who lived and worked in the town, including Alfred Wallis, Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth, demonstrating the role of St Ives in the story of modern art. This is combined with a new programme of large-scale seasonal shows, the next of which, Patrick Heron, opens on Saturday 19th May and runs until Sunday 30th September. The exhibition will stretch from Heron’s early work in the 1940s to his death at the very end of the 20th century, showing the full evolution of his vibrant abstract paintings.

Was impressed with the exterior and particularly the interior of this building. I am not a modern art fan but liked the artistry behind the displaying of paintings including those by Patrick Heron. Lots of glass, airy and spacious. Very nice cafe.

I visited the gallery last Thursday and took my 11 year old daughter as she loves art. However, we clearly don't understand abstract art and are missing something as a lot of the pieces looked as though they were done by children.

A fantastic building in a fantastic spot! We had made reservations for the Patrick Heron exhibit well in advance and were glad we did. The huge colorful paintings over 3 galleries were worth the price of admission alone. We had a super knowledgeable guide, an...More

There is lots of modern abstract art (Picasso etc) as well as an interesting Patrick Heron exhibit. Also has good holiday activity where you paint in Heron’s style.

This is a wonderful exhibition. I happened to catch a program on radio 4 about this with Patrick Heron’s daughters & then I remembered listening to it whilst on holiday in Cornwall so took myself off for a visit. I think it’s on till September...More

I love the Tate at St Ives. It’s such a beautiful location and the architecture of the building is fabulous. Very different experience to visiting Tate Britain or Tate Modern. More intimate but also not as much work on show sadly. The Patrick Heron show...More

I loved the location of the Tate in St Ives, and you have some great views of the sea from inside the museum: they've made it a feature of one of the galleries. It's a nice manageable size, with some very accessible and interesting exhibitions....More
