Tate St Ives will be closed until Friday 31st March 2017.

The refurbishment of the existing Tate St Ives building has proved more complex than anticipated. After careful consideration we have decided to continue the building work through the year and we will reopen the refurbished Tate St Ives in March 2017. We will continue work on the new galleries and building over the summer 2017. The fully completed new Tate St Ives, encompassing the existing building and the extension, will open in autumn 2017. The planned exhibition season for summer 2016, The Studio and The Sea will open to the public on Friday 31 March 2017.

Modern art with a stunning sea view

The gallery is undergoing renovation but is well worth a visit. Great displays and friendly service.

An interesting exhibition of modern art, stunning views over the bay from the cafe and gallery staff were friendly and helpful, well worth a visit if modern art is your thing.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments following your recent visit, I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed with the experience. I assure you the original Tate St Ives building is fully open. We do however currently have an extension to the gallery under construction. Work on this extension to the original building has been ongoing for... More

This impressive building is a treasure in itself, with winding staircases and nautical theme. There are ten galleries to visit, as well as exhibitions. If you have a ticket you can upgrade it and get reduced entry to other Tate localities (Hepworth museum, for example). The gallery staff are delightful.

What a shame! Many people will only be tempted to visit an art gallery on a rare occasion of being on holiday. A visit to the Tate St Ives will confirm their worst fears - incomprehensible modern arty-farty rubbish. It could be so different... I'm a regular visitor to art galleries and museums and was half suspecting the 'temporary exhibitions'... More

St Ives is being badly let down by the Tate. The current exhibition has a few interesting early studio pots in one gallery but the rest is not worth the effort let alone the money. The galleries in the town have much better ceramics and paintings. Someone senior should be looking for new job.

We visited the Tate on our recent stay in St Ives and wished we hadn't wasted our time doing so. As another reviewer said the best painting is looking out the window at the ocean! Absolutely dreadful! .........u-bends, litter tray, jackets on hooks??? Seriously, are they having a laugh? My 3 year old granddaughter has produced better works of art... More

It was a wet day so we bought the joint ticket for here and the Hepworth museum. 10 exhibitions and 4 floors took us quarter of an hour. Whole wall had 'tapestries' which clearly 5 years olds had thrown paint at before adults hung them on the walls. In one area we thought someone had hung their coat - no... More

Total waste of time and money. I've been to many art museums worldwide, large and small, and in my youth I had my work exhibited often and won some nice awards for it. I know art. This wasn't it. Juvenile works of pottery and some mildly interesting installations but, for such a nice facility, it's small and the artwork inside... More

The museum itself is located next to the beautiful beach and there is beautiful gallery with a sea view on the second floor. The exposition itself was mostly about pottery and some pieces of it were really impressive, especially the Californian room and a movie how pottery was made. Also the cafe on the top floor has amazing views of... More
