The Shropshire Union Canal cuts through the city and runs alonsgide the walls at one point near Northgate. Lovely to see the narrowboats and the towpath gives contrasting views from that found on the walls. A little untidy in places although rubbish clearance was underway.

Booking a canal lunch or dinner through the Mill Hotel is an experience not to be missed. Excellent food served by enthusiastic staff and entertaining seafaring captain makes for a delightful 3hour canal cruise
