My husband and I recently attended a Dine and Dem evening at the school. My husband was a little reluctant, but agreed to come with me as it was an Indian evening. What a great evening we had, the hospitality was second to none, Brian and Mary as always made everyone feel so welcome. The lady from, Rose Petals and... More

Revisiting Harthill Cooker School for the fourth time yesterday, I spent and informative hands-on day learning all about fish, something I love to cook but as a very amateur cook tend to avoid. Over the course of the day we learnt about, prepared, cooked and ate mussels, cured salmon and grilled prawns and I got to fillet a fish for... More

My wife and I had a lovely relaxing day cooking Spanish dishes last Sunday which we later served up to guests iwho were amazed at our homemade bread, wonderful paella as well as the lovely dessert . Brian's good humoured tuition was easy to follow and we learnt such a lot including knife skills. The cookery school itself is in... More

I can't speak highly enough of this place - it's ambience, the standard of the tuition and the facilities. I went for the Spanish cookery session and learned about knife skills along the way and will never look at waste food in the same way again! For me it will always be "Barbados!" Brian Mellor was very friendly and professional.... More

We have just returned from a Pizza and bread course and couldn't get over the amount packed into 4 hours. The teaching kitchen is well equipped, coffee and home made biscuits and fruit offered to sustain aspiring chefs and you go home with a meal and extras!

My partner bought this 1 day course as a gift to myself and my Mum. We are both keen cooks and were really looking forward to it. It was a very friendly and casual atmosphere which immediately put us both at ease. The whole day was very laid back and enjoyable. I didn't give it more stars as a few... More

I attended (with others) a basic knife skills course which was run by Brian Mellor and his team. It is a 4 hour course in which we learnt about the various types of knife - old and new, cheap and expensive. How to look after them and how to be safe with them. Then into the kitchen for practical work... More

This was a Christmas present for my husband and we really looked forward to watching how each course was made and then tasting the delicious food. Sadly the evening failed on both scores. I realise time was limited but we were not given an overview of how each course was made. Instead we saw basic parts of each course being... More

Hello Pat We are sorry that you didn’t enjoy the dine ‘n’ dem evening and it wasn’t as you expected. The evenings are something we re-instated recently due to repeated requests from guests who have enjoyed the format over the years. We also now have a growing band of tutors who want to cook for guests, sharing the food, stories... More

I had a fabulous day with Brian & Mary, very informative but kept informal so that everyone felt at ease. I learnt so much and will definitely make more of an effort to 'cook from scratch' and use fresh ingredients. Would DEFINETELY recommend.
