Love Chester city walls. Lots of different perspectives on the city that help you make sense of its history; the amphitheatre, the Roman docks, the roodee racecourse, the castle, the east gate clock, the Groves for an ice cream..... Sometimes a falconry display on the...More

We enjoyed walking around Chester on the old walls, you get to read all the history at various points along the wall and have an excellent view of the city. It is easy to imagine what Chester looked like when it was a major sea...More

Some great views of the city to be had from the walls. Managed to see a bird of pray be put through it paces by the cathedral. The views out to the river are great and you're never far from the restaurants, shops and bars...More

We walked this route twice on this visit. Once in the evening, when it was fairly quiet and accessible, and once in the afternoon, when it was mobbed. Best if you skip it when busy unless you like waiting to pass people all the time....More

We only manged to walk half of the total circuit, but it was definitely worth doing. Lovely views over the city, & interesting glimpses of back yards

Couple of miles walking by road and wall, for the most part pretty average and narrow in places meaning that people stopping to view the sights i.e. dual carriageway with genuine cars, obstruct the pathway. We joined at the clock tower and walked anti-clockwise, lovely...More

Sorry for the delay in replying. The wall is free and open at all times. No guided tour but plaques explaining local sights and information at various points along the wall. The castle keep is free to to look around.

Loads of car parks in the centre, Grosvenor Hotel car park entrance - 1 mins to walls. Law Courts / river area car parks - 1 mins to wall. Race course / Market area car parks (lots of them) - 1 mins to walks - hope this helps
