Hidden behind Regent Street, Downing College offers stunning, classical splendour and is well worth a visit. Interesting modern additions have followed the style of the original buildings.

It's not only a college, but it offers good conference rooms (in the theater), dining (also candle light), breakfast and obviously rooms. I cannot say that they where 4 stars as the service was quite ok, it was the room itself that is a bit simple.

Stunning building and vast grounds right in the commercial centre of Cambridge. We were lucky enough to see it on a hospice charity walk.

The good bits: wonderfully ambient historic setting with vast green acres and car parking in the centre of Cambridge. The porter staff are superb and the breakfast is of a good standard with well trained staff. The bad bits: How anyone can describe the rooms as "premium" is beyond me. Anyone who thinks these rooms are comparable with 4 star... More

We stayed for two nights in August. Price was reasonable and it was an excellent base for exploring a fascinating city. Rooms were well equipped if on the small side and the breakfasts, served in a refectory were included and plentiful. Would go again.

I stayed here 2 nights for a wedding in the deluxe double bedroom. The price was quite steep for student accommodation (around £240 altogether), but the room was very nicely done and you did feel you were in at least a 4-start hotel. Staff were generally friendly, room clean and decorated to a high standard. The only issue I had... More

Five of us stayed here b&b in three rooms last Saturday for my wife's birthday. All the rooms were lovely & clean with everything you could need. Lovely grounds to wander round before having a good full English breakfast. We checked out on Sunday morning but were able to leave our cars on site for the day so no extra... More

Our 2 couples stayed one night at Downing College in the B&B accommodation. We were able to drop the car off early & enjoy the sights of Cambridge before checking in. Beautiful buildings & grounds, great location - the whole site just has a tremendous feel / ambience that I have not felt elsewhere. Porters & Kitchen Staff & Cafe... More

Only sorry we weren't able to stop and listen to the Shakespeare recital on the lawn or visit the Heong gallery. The buildings are beautiful and the air of tranquil study very attractive (it's probably much busier in term time!). I found Kings a bit too awe inspiring, even overpowering, but Downing is just right.
