About
The Botanic Garden is open to visitors throughout the year, with seasonal opening times. This heritage-listed botanic garden was originally conceived by Charles Darwin's mentor and teacher, Professor John Henslow. The Garden's plant collections today number 8,000+ species from all over the world, displayed within 40 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and a Glasshouse Range. We have a Garden Cafe and a Garden Shop (at Brookside gate), both of which are accessible during Garden opening hours. A real oasis in the heart of Cambridge, the Botanic Garden is a wonderful day out for all ages. For further information, please see the Botanic Garden website.

    Always a delight to visit
The Botanic Garden in sunshine was delightful. There are more areas given over to natural planting than I remember from previous years and Newton’s Tree has gone without leaving a trace. A tranquil spot in what has become a very busy city. The cafe can be busy - take a picnic.

    A retreat
Gardening enthusiasts will love the garden, but it's equally appealling as a nice outdoor space away from traffic. While Cambridge has many green spaces, they tend to be a bit grotty - litter, disposable barbecues, smokers etc. You get away from all that in the Botanic Gardens. There are many benches, each offering a different view as well as clean, well maintained toilets. Of course the garden changes with the seasons so there's always something new to see. The information boards are interesting and informative. If it rains, there's always the glass houses. The café is pleasant but overpriced and the café terrace is lovely on a sunny day, with sunshades. To get value from the admission price, plan to spend several hours. If you're local and think you'll go back several times in 12 months, purchase an annual pass.

Beautiful gardens but beware the cafe
Beautiful gardens with lots of lovely peaceful places to wander round. The cafe is best avoided: unisex toilet facilities with men attempting to push doors open, and wet patches on seats and floors. Take a picnic, and use the toilet facilities behind the glasshouses.

    Definitely a must to visit
Wonderful day out with my visiting brother who thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of areas gone over to seed but still lots to see and beautiful garden. We were there 4 and half hours. Used the park and ride which was excellent from Trumpington p and r. Bus stops right outside. Need to return to see the early plants in spring. All in all very well worth the trip and money. Visit if you have the chance. Nice cafe inside too to get a cuppa. Thankyou botanical garden

    Excellent gardens.
I visited the gardens today and really enjoyed my time there, there was plenty to see with beds full of plants and shrubs. However I was disappointed with the price of refreshments in the cafe, £3.85 for a 330ml bottle of Coca-Cola is excessive to say the least. I do expect to pay higher prices in cafes of this type but this is exorbitant.

Lovely afternoon but would visit at a different time of year next time
First time visiting the gardens and had a lovely afternoon. It was big enough to walk around for a couple of hours. However we were slightly disappointed by the lack of flowers/colour. We knew with it being at the end of summer it wouldn't be as colourful but was expecting slightly more. The alcohol in the cafe was overpriced, even for a tourist attraction so we stuck with having a coffee which was more reasonable. We still had a good afternoon and looking forward to visiting again at a different time of year.

    Interesting and beautiful gardens
This is a very nice afternoon out.the gardens are very well maintained and there is a great variety of plants as you would expect.various different themes. It was quite a dull day so not at its best but many plants that I have not seen in other gardens. The cafe was very nice and not to expensive nice cakes.

Lovely grounds, shame about the wait time in cafe!
Beautiful setting & loads of lovely plants & grounds to walk around & look at. The cafe was a disappointment in terms of the waiting time. We queued for 36 minutes before being served which was ridiculous! They had closed one counter & had only 2 people serving?

    Tree-mendous!
Lovely afternoon, despite it being very cold! Booked the afternoon tour with William who was so knowledgeable and brought the garden to life. Tour was only supposed to last for approx one hour but he gave up 90 mins of his time as a volunteer to tell us about the history of the gardens and the more significant trees/plants. Only grumble was that coffee shop was a little over-priced.
Thank you for your very kind review of the Garden and your tour. We will pass this on to William. - CUBG

    Beautiful Christmas Lights
We went for the first day of Christmas lights and they were amazing and magical. The lake had light up waterlillies and was frozen, beautiful trees lit up, fountain changing colours with music. Cafe open doing pizza, mac cheese, soup, sausage rolls, ham or cheese sandwiches and cakes. Had soup and husband had pizza, a bit pricey but good. Cakes very good, I had ginger and lime, amazing and husband had tiffin, good, very sweet. I had hot choc with cream, a mini one, £3.50 but very good, normal size ones were £5.50 or £6 with Baileys. Husband had apple punch but said was watery. Amazing time overall.
Thank you for the wonderful feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your evening. - CUBG

A lovely place to walk around, seemingly endless plants, pathways, features and excellent cakes in the café.
Reasonable admission costs and a real oasis in the city

Terrific weekend in Cambridge which is a beautiful small town with magnificent buildings. Many things to see-- the University colleges, the Botanic Gardens and the highlight for me the magnificent Fitzwilliam Museum which has the most beautiful entrance of any building I've seen. Every room has something of real interest and it would take at least a week to do justice to it.Which means I'll have to go back! Also some outstanding pubs and restaurants which make for a very pleasant visit. And I haven't even mentioned punting on the river.Anyone would enjoy a visit to Cambridge.

We have been visiting the garden with our growing family for years, and yesterday's visit was as enjoyable as ever. Such a beautiful space to enjoy some quiet family time. Our youngest child thoroughly enjoyed the orangery, looking at the different climate gardens, the baby birds on the pond, the schools garden and The Garden Cafe, which serves delicious healthy lunch options.
I always feel inspired after visiting. I'd definitely recommend visiting as a family or with friends. Wonderful place.

If your into plants this is place to go. Very large and well maintained site. Lots of different plants and trees all with information on.
Due to recent rain (and on the day), some paths were closed as water logged
Only gripe is map is quite confusing and also took us 45 mins to leave the gardens as its a maze of different paths. We ended up following the crowd.
Would recommend sign posts for cafe, toilets and most of all exits

Very beautiful gardens, even in early Spring. Especially liked the glasshouses, which held an enormous variety of plants from around the world.

The shop & cafe were good value as well & the cake was excellent !

A word of warning, don't assume that there is a car-park (there isn't) & don't make the mistake of parking on a meter nearby - £14.40 for 2 hours parking !!

Next time we go, we plan to use the park & ride.

Even in March this is a lovely place to visit. £7 each for adults, we could have stayed for hours.

The glasshouses are amazing to visit with so many different areas of the world represented here.

The gardens are well maintained. There are many different gardens represented such as a winter garden, perfumed garden, herb garden etc We saw many gardeners doing a spring clean when we were there on a Tuesday.

Defiantly worth a visit even in the winter. The tropical plant houses are wonderful and lots of plants in flower. The gardens are worth a stroll around and are very well maintained. Plenty of seats, especially in front of the fountain . The café sells excellent brownies but don't be in a hurry as the service is slow. The gardens were quiet and not crowded when we visited.

This place is well worth a visit . An oasis of calm just outside a busy city . Staying at the Clayton Hotel it was a brief walk away.
Even in March on a cold day it was well worth a visit .

We stumbled upon the Botanical Gardens on a cross country car journey because we were looking for a place where the kids could stretch their legs.

Entrance fee is very reasonable and children go free, which was a bonus as we didn't have too much time to spend.

What a beautiful place and so well maintained! The kids loved the little rock formations around the pond.

Would definitely return when things are in bloom, it must be gorgeous!

Beautiful afternoon, even though it's freezing outside! I made a reservation for the afternoon tour with William, who was incredibly informed and made the garden seem alive. The tour was only scheduled to last approximately an hour, but as a volunteer, he gave up ninety minutes of his time to explain us about the significance of the more important trees and plants in the gardens' history.
