Beautiful architecture; serene experience

A most stunning cathedral, with so many smaller chapels to stroll around also. The ceiling is mesmerizing. How did they build that?

We lived in Bristol for 5 months and frequently stopped in to visit this cathedral. It was so beautiful and the architecture was breathtaking. We had several friends and family who came to visit and we would take them all to see this gem.

Some cathedrals appear grandiose, some have styles that clash, but Bristol was very pleasing to the eye both inside and out. Although you can't walk right round the outside it can be seen to great advantage from College Green. Some of the building dates from the 13th century and some from the 19th. It was very pleasing to walk around... More

We visited Bristol Cathedral during passion-tide when all of the crosses and statues were veiled in purple. That certainly drew attention to the special time of the year and the special purpose of the building. The verger was extremely friendly and helpful answering my questions. My favourite part of the Cathedral is the amazing chapter house at a lower level... More

After the reviews, we did expect more and felt none of the "amazing atmosphere". Perhaps, others went at a better time ? Anyhow, the vaulted ceilings are the high point though the many segmented areas (such as the Sailor's chapel corridor) do not make it feel like a comfortable whole. We popped out into the gardens which were nice if... More

Well worth a visit. Extremely impressive structure, we were short of time and would have loved to spent much longer looking round this treasure of a building

Great atmosphere in such an historical place. Choirs are amazing (my daughter is in Consort) Would recommend this to any visitor to Bristol to have a slow walk around the Cathedral and take in all of the history.

It's well worth trying to get a guide as there are so many little stories and fascinating facts to hear and see in this beautiful cathedral. I'm not going to give anything away, you'll have to visit! Stunning stained glass windows and a tranquil place for contemplation.

We booked onto a tour -they are advertised on ther web site - and were guided rounbd by a very knowledible lady. She showed us so many things whhich would not have been obvious to the casual observer. We were particularly impressed with the architecture of the side chapel and the hall vaulting - probably unique. Many stories of past... More
