Description:

Winestate Magazine Australian Winery of the Year 2012 & 2014.

Winestate...

Winestate Magazine Australian Winery of the Year 2012 & 2014.

Winestate Magazine Australian Winemaker of the Year 2012.

In 1980, Geoff Hardy left the then family company, Thomas Hardy & Sons, to make his own way in the Australian wine world. In 1987, he finally found his ideal site for the production of outstanding cool climate grapes in the Adelaide Hills.

The vineyard became known as the K1 Vineyard as this unique, groundbreaking site was the first commercial planting of vines in the Kuitpo (pronounced 'ky-po') region.

Today, like his great-great grandfather, Thomas Hardy, Geoff continues to push the boundaries of Australian viticulture in his single estate K1 by Geoff Hardy wines. He and his family also continue their work to make sure that the K1 Cellar Door maintains its reputation as one of Australia's leading cellar door experiences.

The natural beauty of the K1 vineyard, together with the 'terrior' and dynamic viticulture by one of Australia's leading viticulturalists, results in ultra-premium, single estate wines.

Our cellar door is open on weekends and public holidays and we invite you to stop by to relax and enjoy a glass of wine on the front deck overlooking the lake.

The setting of this winery is picture book perfect with the rows of vines lining the rolling hillsides and the lake drawing visitors back to the reception and tasting area. Everything about the winery delights. The lake is soothing, the eucalypts authentically Australian, and the vineyards hold the promise of abundance. A word of caution, the gravel steps and pathways... More

Had a wonderful experience tasting wines here and at the Hardy owned Pertaringa Wines! The Sav Blanc was amazing, rivaling some of the best NZ wines I have tasted.

Today we were very warmly welcomed by a friendly host at K1 Winery. The location, whilst off the beat track, is in a superbly beautiful location. A quaint building, situated at the bottom of a grand tree lined entrance with a picturesque lake. Enjoyed the experience immensely and our host was chatty and very helpful with the wines. Highly recommended.

Next time you're in the area feel free to pop in to our McLaren Vale cellar door 'Pertaringa'. The wines and the experience is quite different to what we do at K1, but we are sure you... More

Took some New Zealand visitors to the winery back in April on our way to Strathalbyn on the recommendation of the staff of the Visitors Centre at McLaren Vale in the southern hills. Once we turned up the long driveway, it was a sight to behold, a large Lake with ducks in front of a beautiful building with the most... More

Stunning location - no wonder it is popular for weddings and other events. Excellent wines as well, from one of the leaders of the Vale wine industry.

We were recommended to visit K1 Winery by our B&B owner. Surprisingly, some other advice had been that it was "a bit further out", as if this was a deterrent. Not so! All the wineries in McLaren Vale (just like the Barossa), are within short distances of each other, so the difference between 5 minutes or 15 minutes, is hardly... More

Hi Lyse-Scott! Thank you so much for your kind words and review of our cellar door. It's a labour of love for my mum and dad, they'll be very pleased to hear that you enjoyed it so much. Bernadette is an absolute treasure and also works very hard to keep the cellar door running like clock work, we appreciate her... More
