Overview
More
These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens and National Historic Site of Canada started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

Let me start by saying I am not a gardener, but I do appreciate others hard work. These gardens are just amazing. We spent over 5 hours here and the time passed in a flash. We took the bus tour from down town Victoria (booked...More

This is a wonderful place which lifts the spirits in any season. We visited the Gardens in September 2016 having previously visited in Spring 10 years ago. The blooms were different but equally inspiring. The garden immaculately maintained with hardly a blade of grass out...More

Butchart Gardens is a must if you're in the Vancouver area. We visited the gardens as part of an excursion with Princess Cruises - ferry over to the island, a leisurely visit in the gardens, then a ferry ride back. Even in mid-September the gardens...More

We took a tour bus to the gardens toward the end of the day on a Friday. That was a nice move by the tour company to get away from the huge crowds that go there every day. These gardens are spectacular! Even though it...More

Known as a 'must see' in Victoria, BC, it did not disappoint. Absolutely as beautiful as the photos. We got there when they opened, which I would recommend, as it was serene. Dazzling color and immaculate grounds. Takes about 1-1/2 hours to walk through leisurely...More

All the flowers, including the roses were still beautiful during our visit the end of August. The gardens are superbly kept, and the walking trails are well designed. Everywhere one looks, there are photo opportunities. We also loved the concert performances of several singing groups....More

We did a speed tour because we only had 2 hours for Afternoon Tea and touring. Beautiful landscape and well kept. We will go back to spend more time.

Shuttle Bus from downtown to go to this place. The Garden is very nice. Nice flowers and landscape. I thought the walk will be very tiring, but it was not.

Visiting Butchart Gardens by boat in the month of July locked in the most wonderful memory of Vancouver Island. The early evening entertainment was topped off by our strolls through the lighted nighttime landscaping.

Buchart Gardens is open in January, but be mindful it's winter so you will not see blooming roses, etc., however the shrubs and trees are beautiful.

I would say 2 hours with kids is a lot of time. Unless they are avid gardeners of course. You can stop and get a snack in the gardens near the fountain in the the sunken gardens. They sell chips and ice cream and drinks I... More

Vancouver is experiencing long hot summer this year, so the flowers will still be there. We were at the garden on 4th Sept and everything was fine.
